If that was the case you would not have heard Lampley say the ref should at least warn Klitschko for excessive holding . . . which Lampley said.

Lets not carried away! Arreola showed a big heart and a good chin in today's fight.Thats for sure! Nevertheless,he was nothing more than a living punching bag,a tough one, yes, but at no moment did we get the feeling that he was able to upset Vitaly.

I am absolutely sure that either Povetkin or Boytsov would have shown a better performance against Vitaly than the limited American did!

Anyway! Props to Vitaly for another totally one-sided victory!:good

I'm sure you have never pointed out that Lampley doesn't really know what he's talking about. There were only a few places in which Vitali held. Not nearly enough to even get a warning.

Some poster in another thread actually criticized the ref for not letting Vitali hold longer because the punches to the side by Arreola during the clinches were the only meaningful punches Chris landed.

Chris needed to cut at least 15 pounds. While I agree some more fights wouldn't hurt, I doubt the experience he could get from fighting Ruiz would be very helpful against Vitali.

    Have to agree here.

The heavyweight division has gotten to the point where a fighter gets props for doing the bare minimum of what he is suppose to do. For not quitting, he is suddenly rewarded with huge appraise. When he clearly is not anywhere near the best physical shape he could be in.

I also think people overrate "heart" in situations like this. I have only got very minimal boxing experience but one thing i have learned is that the single easiest thing to do in the boxing ring is to take punches and not throw many in return. If things get tricky, its easy to plod along without pulling the trigger, just covering up and taking them as they come. The part that takes real mental strength is forcing yourself to pull the trigger even though your brain doesn't appear to have the technical answers.

Going back and watching the fight does anyone think extra foot speed for Chris would have made a difference? There were a few times when Chris was chasing Vitali down the ropes that it seemed to me if he had more foot speed he might have been able to close the gap and land some of those bigger punches. Chris is not even 30 yet so I'm talking about for down the road if he gets another shot at a championship.

I think it was because of him chasing down and pressuring Vitali that he lost the fight, especially in the first 2 rounds. He kept staying into puncher's range with Vitali, and was easy target practice. It's gonna take a more mobile fighter with a high punch output to beat Vitali, someone who can slip in and out without taking too many punches....

I'm sick of hearing how much 'heart' (balls, whatever) arreola has. He was getting paid a lot of money and he just did what he had to to minimize the embarassment of getting dominated. He did what fighters should do -- show some courage, so let's not get carried away. As others have pointed out, if he had tremendous heart he would've been better prepared --

sorry guys but I dont think his stamina was as great as you all say. He only threw 20-30 punches a round. That low of an output makes it a lot easier to follow Vitali. Had CA thrown as many punches as Vitali did (80 per round) I think CA would have slowed down big time.

I was impressed with CA's heart in the ring, but I still question it outside it. The comment he made about his weight..."****, I train hard, and I play hard".??????? HEY CHRIS, How about "I train hard, and I dont play around"

Arreola did impress me with Vitali. There was a point in about round 4 when I thought he might actually tire out VK but it failed on him.

Regardless a good effort and nothing to be ashamed.Hope he comes back altough I never and still don't trust his skills.

But I have called him ''garbage'' in the past and I was wrong,he is a good fihter.

Strong willed and focused? Not by a long shot. Refusing to train enough for a championship fight in no way indicates great focus nor a strong will. The first three are good, but the last two are absurd. He also showed that his vaunted power is probably over rated, and that his accuracy with combinations is a joke.

I thought so too in I think it was the 7th or 8th. But it just took Chris so much effort and punishment to get to Vitali that he wasn't able to pressure past that.

We're going to take heat but I agree. A 240lb in shape CHris Arreola with a world class trainer is a very scary thought.
