I Think Calzaghe And Mayweather Are Clear Examples Of How Important Stamina Is.

******* Number 2 above on the poll should say "their record is NOT due to their excellent stamina. ************Sorry!!!

There is an old saying in the Marine Corps. "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war."

Also, "Fatigue makes cowards of us all."

In watching Calzaghe and Mayweather's training regimes it is a testament that even if you weren't the best boxer in the ring, your stamina can push you through to many victories that otherwise, may not have happened.

I can remember sparring lesser opponents (or so I thought) but been lazy in my training (amatuer fights) and lost for this very reason and vice versa.

How many of you attribute Calzaghe and Mayweathers success to their stamina?:huh

Their stamina is vital, but there's much more to their success as well.

I thin Tszyu, as a negative example, is a good example of how important stamina is as well.

Stamina is very important particularly for Joe but I really don't see a strong connection between Mayweather and Calzaghe.

No their styles are different but you have never seen either one of them tired? Moreover,in watching their cardio training it is almost second to none, whereas, James Toney simply spars himself in shape.

Calzaghe will throw a million punches a round and therefore solidifying the old adage "the best defense is a good offense."

On the other hand Mayweather can stick and move and dance all night to victory no matter the level of competition because he never gets tired. He spars 20 minute rounds with 6 different guys on many days.

My parallel between the two is only stamina not style.......

Defence, to hit and not get hit is the key.

BS.......he was only 3 years younger than Joe!!! All us Americans need to quit getting caught up in the hype of thinking America is the only boxing nation. Unfortunately, the Europeans are handing us our ass right now.

My point exactly because he is lazy. Jones is one of the greatest of all time not because of his stamina but because of his god given, second to none, athletic ability. If he trained like he was suppose to maybe he would have a better record. In Tarver 1 he just ****in' stood there tired as hell because he's never had to train.

I don't even know how Jones got in this conversation *******. Read the ****in' thread and it's content before you make posts about your favorite fighters. We see your avatar but this has nothing to do with Roy Jones Jr., but if you must make it that than does Roy beat Calzaghe if he had the kind of stamina Joe does?

I'm not a pro-brit or anything but dude look at all of the rankings (ring magazine included) all of the ****in' champs and p4p upper echelon are from across the pond. It makes me sick but it's ****in' happening.

YOu have enough posts to READ THE THREAD, DECIDE YOUR OPINION BASED ON THE CONTEXT OF THE THREAD, AND THEN ANSWER THE ****IN' QUESTION!!!

I'm sorry OUR guy lost but get over it and answer questions with some common ****in' sense...........

I answered it, I said one is a cherry picker (Slappy), while PBF is so skilled because noone can hit the guy, sure stamina helps but in the case of these 2 other factors are involved, Margo and PW are 2 guys that win because of stamina, I think you would have been better suited using them.

Everyone ages differently. Jones has done nothing of note past the age of 34 and hasn't looked good since then.

Calzaghe's performance in the ring at his age is very impressive, he's going very strong for 36 and isn't that far removed from his best like Jones was/is.

its not the only thing but it definitely does help. both mayweather and calzaghe are great at withstanding the initial assault of power punchers and adapting their game plan so they can take out the other guy.

And RJJ is not lazy, once you get old your stamina goes, Holy, Tyson, Bhops and others have loss stamina due to father time kicking thier ass.
