I think Carl Froch is pretty underrated on this forum.

I am very aware of Froch's shortcomings. I don't like the "hands down" thing either, it's pointless machismo in my opinion, a rash and silly tactic. And I think he is a bit on the slow side as well.

However, I find it strange the way he is often referred to on here, as an unskilled plodder with no chance in the Super Six.

I mean, look at the guy's last 3 fights ffs:

    - Goes toe-to-toe with Jean Pascal, finds himself embroiled in a difficult fight with a very strong opponent, then adapts and uses his jab to power home and win the WBC smw title. Since then, Pascal has moved up to lhw and became (imo) the second best fighter in the division after Dawson by beating some solid comp.

    - Goes to the USA in his very first defence to put it on the line vs a boxer-puncher with proven speed and quality, Jermain Taylor. Is too cocky and gets dropped, hard. Grits his teeth and fights through it, battling back after being outboxed for the first half of the contest, and his heart and power drive him to a last round KO victory.

    - Gets a decision win over Andre Dirrell. At the time, no-one thought Froch's performance was impressive... then we saw how Dirrell dominated Arthur Abraham. Whether you think Froch beat Dirrell or not, it was undoubtedly a close fight, and the highly touted Abraham couldn't come close to matching that. Again faced with an opponent far quicker and slicker than him, Froch utilized his own strength, relentlessness and toughness to edge it in the judges' eyes vs a very tricky and skilful opponent.

Whatever way you look at it, Froch has produced the goods. He may not be perfect, but he fights to his strengths, and he is a damn strong fighter.

Stylistically, I don't think he has much chance against Andre Ward, who looks just as tough as Froch, but with far more speed. But I think he will knock Mikkel Kessler out. Kessler will come right at Froch, and Carl has underrated boxing abilities I think. He outboxed Pascal, he clawed back rounds against Taylor, he forced Dirrell to be extremely negative. Carl is awkward enough, strong enough and persistent enough to compete on an even field in a boxing match with Kessler, as long as he doesn't do his usual and give in to the rush of blood to the head to drop the hands and make it a war. And when it comes to the crunch, he is mentally and physically stronger than Kessler. Froch would never have disintegrated and became demoralized the way Kessler did vs Ward.

In conclusion, I'm not and never will be much of a fan of British boxers, but I do think Froch gets a raw deal on here. He has fought top opponents in his last three, he has managed to get the win in each, and he has better ability than a lot give him credit for. Carl will KO Kessler. Only a second fight with Dirrell will determine who finished second in the Super Six between those two IMO, as my money is on Ward.

Great post. MichiganWorrior will probly be one of the first to try and big Dirrell up and how it was a pure "robbery" though

I agree that Froch is Highly underrated on here as is Hatton, Haye and Calzaghe, must be a British thing

i really do rate froch quite highly, he knows his strengths and fights to them, but more so he is willing to fight anyone anywhere, taylor in usa, kessler in denmark, and they are both defences of his own belt!

he is a crowd pleaser and he always goes for the kill. quality operator. in the form he's in now, i dont see anhyone beating him.

Froch is the least skilled and will most likely come in last place. He got a gift against dirrell and really failed to stop a very green fighter when he had his chance. Dirrell grew more from that fight rather than Froch showcasing anything special.

I've been saying for some time now how much I appreciate and respect Carl Froch. He's a credit to the sport. Lays it on the line, gives it all he has, and gets results. He should be championed for his accomplishments. For such a non-athletic athlete he's worked miracles. Imagine if this guy had the physical capability of someone like Dirrell or Bradley. It's a scary thought.

    good stuff popkins.

i will be a bit more specific and say that froch's resume and body of work are horribly underrated. he's ranked in most people's top five but not top three in the smw division. this is unfair. however, the people who feel that he's a ko waiting to happen are well justified and he very easily could have lost the dirrell decision and lost the taylor fight. but he didnt. he won. and until someone else's hand gets raised...he should be considered the man at smw.

Well, it's impossible for him to finish last, but even so deserves respect right now. May'be he will get blasted in his next two fights and then **** can fly, but right now people aren't giving him his due while he deserves it. If everybody had the attitude of a Carl Froch we would have "Super 6" fights every week or so.

Realistically he lost the Dirrell fight. I applaud the guy for being tough and coming to fight but I think he is outclassed quite a bit and it will start to show in future fights. Dirrell realistically wasn't ready for this tournament and he still beat him although he did it with a lot of technical shortcomings that he's seemed to have corrected. That's why I say Dirrell really grew as a pro in that fight more than anything special Froch does and Taylor was completely shot..

Maybe it is because of Froch's hand's down style coupled with unimpressive upper body movement and he looks like someone who is waiting to be KOed by someone with good enough power. However, it seems that his chin is solid enough to absorb those power shots and he has decent power himself so he can actually win his fights by his sheer relentlessness to go along with that sturdy chin.

Carl Froch is an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in a mystery. I respect the man and his willingness to fght anybody anywhere anytime, his determination, etc are all very admirable and the sport would be better off if alot of guys had the same makeup as him.

For the life of me though i have no ****ing clue how he has been as successful as he has been. He seems to defy the laws that govern the universe in which we reside. The Kessler fight has me feeling the same way i always do with him. Kessler has straighter punches, faster handspeed, better counter punching, and an equally solid chin. Everything should favor Kessler yet for some reason i see it as a 50/50 fight, have no clue who will win or how it will unfold and my uncertianty is due to one word, Froch. The guy somehow makes it happen, i have no clue how and at this point i don't think i will ever understand. I sure as hell can't wait to see it though.
