If Floyd was taken out of his fight for the most part, how come Hatton was getting off less than 50 punches per round? How come Hatton was landing in the single digits every round? How come Floyd was out landing him by a wide margin for most of the rounds? How come Hatton wasn't able to land any left hooks? How come all the judges had Floyd way up on the scorecards? How come Floyd landed over 40% of his punches while Hatton landed 17%? If you're going to tell me Floyd was taken out of his fight, you better bring proof. Floyd had to adapt, but he did what he does in every fight. He limited his opponents output, he took away his opponents best weapon, and he landed the cleaner punches.
I agree. But it took him about 6 rounds to really figure him out. Hatton had Mayweather flustered often in the early rounds. Some of Mayweather's fans never admit he even loses rounds in which he's constantly on the defensive. The same with the De La Hoya fight. Some Mayweather fans were claiming he easily won lots of rounds which were obviously close. Mayweather is GREAT because he seems to be able to figure out EVERYONE, and as soon as he figures the opponent out he pulls away and takes the fight, by decision or by stoppage. But it's wrong when his fans make out that he was in front the whole fight, and in fact it's probably a disservice to his greatness more than anything.
I tend to agree. Hatton gives us a measuring stick by which we can compare how he might do against similar styles of the ATG's. Pressure is clearly the recipe for beating Floyd. Hatton gave him a great deal of trouble prior to the KO. Duran, Pryor and Chavez were all guys that could employ a similar style to Hatton. Of course, all of those guys were better defensively, more accurate, argueably hit harder, and had impenetrable chins. No one can ever say who would win in such mythical pfp matchups, but a great case for each one of these guys beating Floyd could be made. Having said that, the fact that you can even begin to talk about Floyd in the same breath as these guys means he's something pretty special.
How come. how come...how come....... Simple question right here, how come Floyd was troubled more in this fight then any before? Punch stats and **** like that don't tell as much as the fight itself. If you think last night was vintage Floyd, then you really never saw him fight much. But I know you have.
You keep saying he was troubled more than in any other fight, but you offer no proof. Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought the point of boxing was to inflict damage on your opponent. Hatton never did this. The guy only landed 63 punches over 10 rounds. Please tell me how exactly how he gave Floyd alot of trouble. He was well behind on every scorecard, he barely landed any clean punches and he was getting hit with alot clean punches himself. I don't even think there was a mark on Floyd's face. I never said this was vintage Mayweather. He's not at his peak anymore, but he still put on a dominating performance
No RJJ is not top 10. He did beat two ATG but the rest of his resume was relatively weak. Some even thought that Hopkins wasnt prime at the time they fought. I do prefer RJJ over Floyd just because he was very exciting and explosive..just a total freak of nature
Floyd did not look good in that fight. For long stretches he "turtled" against the ropes (even turned his back and stuck his head through the ropes at one point - what the hell was that?). When he came to the center of the ring, he was able to land clean damaging punches, but most of the time he covered up and "played it safe." Honestly, taking the fight as a whole, if we're talking about actual time spent fighting (as opposed to the "turtle" against the ropes), Collazo probably look better overall against Hatton. Floyd did what he had to do and finished the show and that's all that matters. It was ugly, yes, but he got the job done. Certainly no virtuoso performance.
floyd whooped his ass twice, castillo has a better resume than de jesus anyways, he will go down as the better fighter.
Floyd didn't whoop his ass in either fight, especially the first. He definitely beat JLC in the rematch, but it was no ass kicking.
Look man, I know what I'm talking about. I've seen Floyd look better, but this was a good performance. He totally neutrilized Hatton's offense, he was able to constantly land lead straight rights and left hooks(that's hard to do for a right handed fighter), he worked the body, he fought well on the inside, and he jabbed the **** out of Hatton in round 9. He wasn't as active as I would have liked, but alot of that had to do with his hit and hold tactics in the early rounds, as well as Hatton's mauling style.
Castillo is a C fighter compared to Duran. Lets face it, you can nullify Floyds game with active pressure. I think this might have to do with fighters being latino, blacks don't want to admit Floyd would have a good chance at being defeated.. Someone brought up Pryor. Yep, Hawk deffinately has the chin, insane work rate, and pressure to beat Floyd. Have to entertain the idea.. At the same time.. Someone brought up that, the fact we compare Floyd to these fighters is testament to how good he is.. Yep. He's a great fighter. The fun part is debating who in history would be better than him. I think Floyd is another one of a kind guy, deserves to be mentioned along with these fighters.
Lance: Do you understand how flawed your logic is? If I was in the ring w/ PBF & all I did was rush at him full speed and just try to wrap his arms, PBF wouldn't look very good against me. In fact, if I did that to Whitaker, Duran, SRL, or any ATG, none of them would look that good. Why? B/c that style of fighting makes for an ugly fight for anyone. But the fact that PBF even managed to look good, not great, against that maul & brawl style speaks VOLUMES. What you're doing is saying that someone who ran a 15 second 100m dash isn't impressive, but ignoring the fact that he did it in 6 inches of snow.
