People tend to overestimate the last shot against Moorer, in my opinion. Sure it was hard, (Teddy Atlas swears that Moorer's mouthpiece was split in half after the fight), but it wasn't nearly the one punch knockout that most people tend to think. Watch the fight, Foreman was pounding on Moorer for that entire last round. (Foreman-Moorer, rounds 9 & 10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ4k9x3Z9pg ). In any case, Shavers probably had more power in one punch, but his delivery was worse the Geroge and, from what I've seen, it usually was one punch at a time from Shavers. George was more likely to punch in combination, and to use both hands effectively. That would be damn interesting. I think it would be betetr than Ali-Lewis too, because the styles of Lewis and Foreman go together towards making a fight much better than Ali and Lewis. You might not want to take that literally, (especially since I don't think I remember Cooney hitting George with any meaningful shots in their bout), as George tended to be very modest during his comeback. Going into every fight it was always the hardest fight of his comeback so far, and every guy hit the hardest. (I think he said that about Bert Cooper, Gerry Cooney, Tommy Morrison, and he also claimed that a Canadian Heavyweight named Ken Lakusta who rocked him hit him with the single hardest shot he'd ever taken). Just for fun, Foreman-Lakusta. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ybhn19IIQA
Well Charlie "Russian Pride" Zelenoff a.k.a "ViciousBoxer" a.k.a "Balla a.k.a Boxa" a.k.a "Punishmentmay3d" was known to send mathafcukas into outer space, but nobody is bringing that into the argument.
His left hook was measured at 700 pounds, not bad for WW, the kid has a bright future ahead of him.:good
i think foreman threw "arm punches" mostly, but he still starched guys. that should show you what kind of power he had. poor technique, but massive natural power.
Potentially , the hardest puncher ever probably isn't in boxing...I'd look up for the type of guys who are participating in the "strongest man" in the world competitions...but since they can't punch like pros..They'd obviously be worthless inside a ring. In the sport of boxing alone though....Foreman is one of the strongest ever for sure. But he's not the only one. Tua is up there. But it's still surprising that Foreman wasn't able to KO ali...when the skinny & quasi-powerless Henry Cooper knocked Ali's ass in the 5th..
I Think Larry Holmes said the same thing about Shavers, and some mentioned that Foreman said Shavers hit harder than he did. So it's got to be Shavers
Thats not what George said. He had said that Cooney had the hardest left hook he had ever taken. Cooney did have a great left hook. Its possible
Foreman def being modest and he was stronger all round i would say, but one punch sheer force has to lie with Shavers for me, so many of the top heavyweights including Ali and Foreman himself have said this, and from what i can see he was pretty dam destructive, proper heavy hands. Thats not just pointing out obvious knockouts but knowing a fighter has been shaken down to the boots even from glancing blows.... Shavers could have knocked fence posts in with that right hand !
