I think Holyfield beats 70s Foreman is that an unpopular opinion?

Good post. Holyfield had great boxing that he used to sometimes throw in the trash because he wanted to mangle a dude. I'm not complaining because he was as exciting as hell because of it but it would be a bad strategy against Foreman.

So when you close your eyes and see Holyfield trying to beat the crap out of Foreman in the first minute of round 12, you'd have it favouring Foreman?

Considering he didn't do that against the old Foreman I think its likely he'd do the same against prime Foreman but who knows?

I think he's saying if Holy used that strategy, he wouldn't make it to round 12.

LOL, nah I'd assume that any war would have been decided earlier in the fight and that Holyfield would have the late fight endurance.

So at what point in the fight would you guess that very aggressive fighting from Holyfield would stop favouring Foreman and start favouring Holyfield?

If he was going to beat 70s Foreman, then I would have expected to see a lot more from him against 90s Foreman.

As someone who’s fourth favorite fighter is Holy (After Liston, Frazier, and Patterson), I’m unfortunately inclined to agree. Would be rooting for Holy to prove me wrong however.

Honestly? That's unknowable. My best guess would be about rounds 4-5. It would really depend on how much energy Foreman expended and how much damage Holyfield sustained.

But 90s Foreman wasn't a worse version in EVERY way than the 70s version so I'm not sure it's that simple.

Agreed. Very boring and repetitive poster with his weird parasocial relationship with Foreman.

It's not a lot is it? Going to war in round 6 might be the right thing to do for Holyfield, quite wild that if you think about it.

Did Holyfield ever exercise that restraint - damn near essential in this one - when he didn't immediately respond after getting tagged?

They fought roughly nothing alike Jan that’s silly and I usually agree with you.

I’d suggest watching the first 6 rounds of Bowe 2 to see what he could potentially pull off. Steward had the plan to use his legs and “turn it up later” before the Fan man he was getting the ball rolling with his combos now right after RB just tried a 90 punch round where I suspect had begun to tire. Foreman was commentating that they should consider pulling Bowe out because he’s so young and that sort of whipping could ruin him, I’d also like to point out that he was every bit possible of following a plan to smother and fire blanket an opponent seen in the Tyson fight, not that Tyson and Foreman are 1-1 just that Holyfield following a plan like that is entirely possible.
