"He took them from the Pinnacle and beat them to a pulp"........

Oscar De La Hoya said "Hopkins dismantles and opponent not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. Guys who fight him leave their soul in that ring and it stays there"

He didn't ruin Trinidad, he was just the worst possible style matchup for him. Tito looked like his old self against Cherifi and Mayorga but looked terrible against Wright for the same reason he looked bad against Hopkins

Tito's success was predicated on him being the physically stronger, bigger guy in the ring who could impose his will on his opponents physically. So of course when he continued moving up in weight to the point where he had to fight opponents who were not only bigger and physically stronger than him but also more skilled technically, it was inevitable that he would lose in lopsided fashion

Good post. In fact, Trinidad looked better against Mayorga than he had in many of his pre-Hopkins fights. If that wasn't a masterclass in precise, heavy power-punching, then I don't know what was. He was also moving with much more versatility than he had before. I think the loss just generally sapped his motivation, if anything.

Hops didn't ruin Trindad. He just put a hault to the fan train. Watch Trinidad - Mayorga and tell me that wasn't a prime Tito in there. He looked ****ing fantastic.

Bit too early to say he ruined Pavlic as he has not fought since but mentally, I think he has took a peice of his heart. Trinidad was fighting a much larger guy who had the skills to shut him down. Hopkins has beat a lot of HOF fighters but they have always been smaller than him, apart ftom Tarver maybe.

I'll agree with that ... you see so many good boxers take the "fight" out of some pretty damn good fighters.

I don't think Pavlik is finished, i'm sure that he will never be reminded of that night with Hopkins ... I serious doubt there's a fighter out there that can take Kelly that deep into the waters.

I still don't understand how Vernon Forrest lost twice to Mayorga.. stylistically, you would think Vernon dominates a fighter like Mayorga.. it's unexplainable.

But other than Forrest, Mayorga has lost to every fighter that he was supposed to lose to. So in a way, Mayorga is the guy that most fighters want to fight to look good against. Because he is so wide open to be hit and his technique is so amateurish and caveman-ish..

That is yet to be seen. Kelly wasn't 100% for that fight. He did kick Tito's ass, though. That was some fuggin' fight.
