IMHO Trinidad ruined Reid, Vargas, Joppy, and convinced the shell of Sweet Pea to retire. He was a career wrecker in his own right.

If Hopkins sent Pavlik a Christmas card he would be to scared to open it.

The Mayorga that Forrest fought is a whole different beast then the one that Trinidad, Oscar and Mosley fought. Its really not comparable imo.

    The mayorga that fought

    cruz
    lewis
    lewis
    forrest
    forrest
    spinks

was on a whole nother level then the one that fought tito, oscar and mosley.

leading up to spinks mayorga was talking about how hes been fighting his whole life and hed like to retire.

Its no wonder right after he lost a close MD to a prime spinks (while getting two points deducted throughout the fight) that the next fight he fails to make weight at 154! and never sees 147 again (the weight that he should be fighting at)

With the amount of miles mayorga had on his body, inside and OUTSIDE the ring, add to that his lack of discipline and lifestyle, its completely absurd to hold the mayorga fight against forrest because of how mayorga looked once he left 147, against a tito at MIDDLEWEIGHT and against an oscar after he took a severe, and in many cases career altering beatdown by tito.

The mosley fight is a testament to how good mayorga is regardless, and he was in the best shape hes been in for that fight then hes been in since spinks, and it showed, although a bit too little too late.

But the Mayorga that knocked out lewis, forrest and cruz and gave spinks all he wanted and more is a nightmare for anybody at 147 barring a few top ATG's and you only have to watch the fight to see how its concievable that mayorga is all wrong for forrest. Forrests nemises is not boxing, almost nobody is going to outbox forrest at 147, but you get a big, strong, aggresive power puncher with a great chin and forrest will have problems, Forrest doesnt deal with strength, aggression and power to well if the guy can walk through his punches. Although Forrest on paper matches up well one would think with Mayorga, unfortunatly for Forrest it was HIS weaknesses that would make the difference in the fight, as mayorgas strengths played to Forrest's weaknesses much more then forrests strengths against mayorgas weaknesses.

And the Mayorga that fought at 147 had deceptive speed, thats what made his punches so dangerous, besides the fact they were from insane angles, they had the speed to CATCH you. He actually used more defence then normaly percieved, and instead of throwing stiff arm punches he got his whole body into insane haymakers, and then would mix in fast, stiff and relatively straight right crosses. His footwork wasnt horrible as some would like to believe, he considered himself unbeatable, his aggression was off the charts when he got you wear he wanted you and his chin had yet to have one crack in it.
Overall was a very dangerous, dangerous fighter. A lot of what made him dangerous was lost above 154, and then after tito... well.

Also, for more evidence of how to unsettle forrest, look at the ike fight, another big strong guy who can walk forrest down. Of course the fighter has to be good enough, but there are certain elements that work against forrest despite his great techinical and physical ability.

But 147lb Mayorga is completely underrated IMO.

Ill take prime Mayorga over prime Forrest 7 out of 10 times.

    just imo

Wow...one hell of an in depth analysis my man and spot on. I too agree that Mayorga was hell for ANYONE at 147. He's not quite the crude. clumsy, inept oaf people made him out to be. The Trinidad beating changed the monster that he was(and the move up in weight too) This guy must have been a nightmare in a street fight. If he has anything left and goes through with his proposed new career in MMA, some cats are gonna get seriously hurt when he catches them with those tiny gloves.

Thanks Killa, ya man hes scheduled to face Din Thomas, with how far gone i assume Mayorga is, and how long hes been out, and this being his first mma fight, and its against Din Thomas, i sadly dont have a lot of hope, but i hope that hes able to spark this cat out, then come back to boxing and make some retirement paydays against Chavez Jr in a fight i think he should win, and then maybe fight Cintron or Angulo.

Yes Hopkins DID ruin Trinidad, if not physically then obviously mentally. Trinidad had one fight after the Hopkins fight like nearly one year later then took off for two years. Mentally Trinidad was hurt and hurt big time, with all the hype leading up to the fight and how Hopkins threw the Puerto Rican flag Trinidad obviously went in the fight, as he admitted, with the mentality that he OWES his people this victory and in classic fashion. Trinidad barely won one round and got KO'd for the first time in his career in the 12th round. If people can't see how that ruined him mentally then these people must be blind. If he wasn't ruined why he did leave the sport for as long as he did after the loss?, why does he STILL keep bringing up a rematch with Hopkins in almost every single interview where he's asked about future plans when he was active?, even during his fight with Jones Jr. he admits that he wants to fight Hopkins after it.

That's what makes him a great fighter though, any other fighter wouldn't even bother and move on to the next best "business" move, Trinidad badly wanted to make statement to reach out for a Hopkins rematch but fell short against Wright and Jones Jr.

I agree and I actually had Mosley LOSING by one round going in the 12th, I couldn't believe I scored it that way either but that's how I saw it and I'm a fan of Mosley.

WTF!? Who the hell is managing Mayorga's MMA career? They must hate him to throw him in against an experienced fighter like Din Thomas. A Kimbo Slice style matchmaking(ie washed up Tank Abbot and old, inexperienced in MMA boxer Ray Mercer) would have been sufficient to get his feet wet considering he has 0 MMA experience(Managua street brawls aside) Even though I like Din Thomas as a fighter, I wouldn't mind seeing a boxer versus MMAer starching ala Ray Mercer-Tim Silvia. :bbb

I usually listen pretty closely when DiBella speaks, but in this case he is full of ****. Others already laid out many examples of how Tito did well post-hopkins. As for Pavlik, four months after Hopkins beat his ass Kelly got back in the ring and put on a clinic on the proper use of a left hook, and made the #1 mandatory challenger cry and quit on his stool. People really ought to at least wait until a fighter goes the distance with KP at 160 before they talk their bull****.
