I think Hopkins would have been stopped if he didn't fake his low blow

Hopkins was getting really tired and it looks like he was on the verge of quitting when he took that 5 mins break. Joe C pressure was too much for Nard to handle and you could see that he was getting really fatigue. Hopkins was smart for doing what he did otherwise he may have been given the red light.

Nope. He was tired, but he didn't look to the point where he was exhausted.
Wishful thinking that will likley produce many Euro fans to agree. Me, being a fan of both, and actually Calzaghe moreso, gives a more untained perspective. :D

No you don't, you only listened to what Teddy Atlas had to say. It was one man's opinion. I tend to think that the ONLY reason why Hopkins faked the low blows was to get a rest. And it wasn't to avoid a TKO but rather to gather himself to try to win the decision. That is a huge difference in why he faked the low blows. Hopkins knew the fight was somewhat close. He knew he was running out of gas. He needed the extra stamina to finish strong and to try to close out strong and get the decision. It wasn't to avoid a TKO. Come on, let's get real here. He was tired but he could probably avoid a TKO lying down.

Is this a joke? Hops has got one of the hardest chins in recent middle/lightheavyweight history and you think a frail-handed slapper is going to knock him out? How many punches to the face to Bernard even take in that whole fight?

    You're missing the threadstarter's point.

While anyone can be KO'd by the right punch, I don't think that was likely to happen to Bernard. However, he could have been stopped by exhaustion, which has little to do with chin and much to do with conditioning (and age).

I would rate the probability of a stoppage (without that little rest) as around 25-30%.

And the video replay showed that the punch, while low (due to yet another head pulldown by Bernard), was nowhere close to where his balls ought to be.

And if Bernard still has undescended testicles at 43, he should see his physician soon.
