All this time, I was worried about how long it took to throw a lead right, and I never threw it. Really I became left hand heavy, and barely ever threw my right- terrible I know. Lately, Ive made a point of standing like DLH- more on my toes, lead hand more in front, and it seems like my problem was just that I was way too flatfooted while moving. Idk why I posted this, I guess just to get pointers with anyone who had a similar problem throwing the lead right.
Being flatfooted will be a problem for any punch. Sometimes people get away with it with the lead hand because there less distance to travel, many times you'll see someone throw a one-two and leave their back foot behind them. I know its basic, but when moving forward you always push of your back foot. People who don't have this down find a straight right difficult because the punch is all about exploding of the back foot.
Good point. I never used to throw it b/c It takes so long so I just get a nice counter to the face for my effort. I watch clips of Floyd doing it, and he makes it look so effortless. Hopkins too.
For a good straight right you need to get the hip in (the rest will follow), you can't do that if you're flat on your back foot.
Word. Its funny to me that I had to figure this on my own. But I probably had so many flaws that my trainers just hadnt gotten to it yet, haha.
