I think if you put Joe Louis in the place of Holmes, Louis would make it to 49-0

Different kind of athlete in Holmes' era. That's all I'll say.

No. Louis couldn't have survived the power of Renaldo Snipes

But, in all seriousness, the odds of achieving that kind of uninterrupted win streak are against it. People should perhaps consider that Larry himself was lucky to have got by a few of his opponents with the 'W'.

It's a possibility, few good fighters in Holmes Era tho. If Braddock can drop Joe in the first, can Cooney, Shavers, and Weaver maybe go one further? Unlikely but can we rule it out.?

    Anything is possible.
One can never rule out the possibility of a knockout, in boxing.
But, as you imply, the likelihood of Louis being taken out by the guys you mention, is not great.
Indeed, the reverse scenario is much more likely. Personally, I think a prime Louis would dispatch Cooney in fast and brutal fashion.

Not much of a problem for Louis. Quite a few non-entities before Holmes moved up and finally fought a live body.

    He'd beat all of them.

Larry didn't drink ? Larry loved a drink. Not during training but read the story of his bar room brawl with Trevor Berbick.

Joe was very green in that first Schmeling fight and showed terrific courage by keeping going. Have a look at the rematch.

\Yeah, sure, he got ko'ed by a washed up old Kraut who was picked for that reason alone and it back fired......one can say that Holmes picked some fights against green opponents but he never lost against them.......and Holmes would box Schmelling silly, most likely stop him, any version of Schmelling......comeback Holmes would get a clear UD. Schmelling is tailor made for Holmes.

He's got to get close to Joe first without getting hit.

Yeah, when I watched how Cooney went down from that Holmes right hand, Louis right hand would've drove him through the mat. I see shades of Louis/Buddy Baer in that one.

    say what ?

You know by that time Larry was close to 50? Are you that dense ?

When Louis was at a similar age he already had a stroke and was a drug addict...............and how old was Louis when he died ? Louis abused his body to the max that is the reason it was cut short

Today, Larry is in better shape than Louis was in his late forties.....

Louis would have a great chance at taking out Shavers early as well, Weaver and Cooney too.

Joe Louis was 66 when he died. It seems that Louis should have lived 10, 20 perhaps even 30 years longer than he actually did.
