I think making Usyk a mandatory was the worst thing for him.

I fear that he's made himself far too inactive for too long at such a crucial time in his career, and I think it's largely down to him just waiting around for his mandatory title shot, rather than being placed in the ranks like everyone else, meaning he'd be fighting more often to earn his shot, and getting critical fighting experience.

Even if he was only fighting fighters like Helenius, Takam, Price etc, at least he'd be getting more experience at heavyweight, and by now could have potentially could have won a title eliminator and claimed a title, but by actually fighting for it, and who knows, could have fought someone in the top 10 in a real fight by now.

His final fight at Cruiserweight was in 2018, against Tony Bellew.

Since then he has been preparing for Heavyweight and was immediately declared a mandatory for Joshua when stepping up, and has fought - Witherspoon 2019 - - Chisora 2020.

So since 2018, when he was 31 years old, he has fought one nobody, and one average fighter, and just waited/stalled on his mandatory, and is now 34 years old....

He's going to be fighting another average questionable top 10 fighter in Joyce, but that still hasn't been resolved, which could very well be down to Usyk being deliberately awkward and making shitty demands for 93% of the purse.

If he does get a shot it will probably be late 2022, meaning he'll be 35 and not far off being 36, and probably past it by then. So basically he left cruiser weight in 2018 at 31, and he's waiting until age 35/36 before really being able to make his mark again properly.

The very fact that the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, between ages 31-34/35 only fighting the likes of witherspoon, Chisora and Joyce is a joke really. In my opinion, he should have been fighting far more regularly. I know Covid stopped fights from happening between march 2020-august 2020, but it there has been time to make other fights happen, rather than just pushing his mandatory. If the likes of Joshua and Whyte could make things happen during covid, then so could he.

TL;DR - I think he should have considered a longer route to a title shot and worked his was up by fighting lesser fighters and gradually building himself up, and if he's really that good, he would waltz passed some of the competition.

To be fair he has had injuries and no sane person wants to fight Joe Joyce.

If he's scared to fight Joyce he should quit heavyweight and go back to Cruiser.

Usyk's only chance would have been to campaign at heavyweight from the start.

Now he isn't much of a threat. To small, average power and without the reflexes that brought him a gold medal.
He isn't well past it..he is still near his prime but he needed to be absolute peak to ever be in with a shot.

But he probably did the right thing because he stamped his mark on the cruiser division by competing in the tourney and probably made more cash than most cruiserweights have ever made.

It was quite disturbing seeing the sluggish Chisora walking him down and eating his punches like pretzels. Like a drunkard slowly staggering to the bar to get his last drink in. I don't think this puny Usk should be fighting these obese specimens, their just too strong.

In big money division preferable is to have top fighters from U.S, U.K or Mexico.

Pro boxing I think is not suitable career for lads not from these countries and I will keep this opinion always.
More national origin fans and bigger fanbase, larger country is better for business.

According to WBO rules he was mandatory yeah, like Crawford when he had moved up in the weights. He normally get title fights and surprisingly also Loma ( maybe cos bob ?).

Usyk most likely might had been better retired after he finished cocky Bellew in distance in his backyard.
Still at least next 2 paychecks businessman had collected and this doesn't looks bad for his wallet at all.

Boxing is not good business if you aren't from proper country.

I normally had wished to see Joyce vs Gassiev in his prime when he was in WBSS1 final. :D
Ohh, I had forget that he is not from proper country.

As much as I think Hearn is a great promoter, signing with him was the wrong move in my opinion.

I believe Eddie Hearn convinced Usyk not to push for the Joshua fight immediately, which was Usyk’s right. And now we are where we are.

Sure feels like he's waiting for that cash out opportunity to me rather than actually set out to prove he's a great heavyweight

Seems that way. Wallowing in no-mans land, waiting as time ticks on and the ring rust accumulates.

btw EE ppl already had did this.
Maybe soon also four alphabet letters orgs and western market will be not that lucrative for them.

You normally become a boxing promoter, Usyk already is boxing promoter and had event with 13 fights in one fight night.:D

You too better start your own business as a boxing promoter.:nonono

Also I think EE ppl need to start their own alphabet org and not accept western rankings and western pro boxings orgs decisions.

In India and China for example no one cares about your pupps and their backyards & belts, HOF and other stuff.

Well, if he wasn't mandatory for A.J, he maybe did not had get even Whiterspoon and Chisora fight and these were not badly paid off.
Also his CW fights vs Murat and Belle were with not bad purses. Partially to this kind also this damn close fight vs Briedis.
Media usually reports only basic warranted minimal part of purse and WBSS purses are with some parts, not only minimal warranted.

    I ofc do know how westerners are c o c k y about $.

He's literally the only person to have had all 4 Cruiser belts at the same time, he's won a Gold medal, and now he's looking for some cash out fights. That's it. Could you imagine fighting for 34 years, having every belt in a division, a gold medal, and still be worth less than Jake Paul?
