I think Margarito is getting way too hyped

  1. I'll admit I've not seen many of his fights but the ones I have seen haven't impressed me that much and I feel come Sunday we'll all see Margarito has been massively overhyped for this fight.

The reason I believe has more to do with his nationality than his fighting ability - everyone knows boxing is big news in PR & Mexico and they do produce some of the greatest most mentally driven fighters we've ever seen in the ring BUT that doesn't mean when two of them meet it will make a close fight and this is the case I feel with this fight. The promoters and instituations know this but given the countries have built it up alot, look at how Marg's losses were downplayed in the HBO countdown. A loss is still a loss and though he has improved non of his foes have been near Cotto's level so the basis for imrovement isn't there. P4P Would Margarito have beaten SSM? I doubt it. Judah though, yes, I think Judah is overated. Torres? no. Torres is magic once he lets those hands flail just look at his recent fight and the fact he rocked but could not stop Cotto further solodifies my belief Cotto is the better boxer here.

I think when the fight starts 1/2 rounds in after a little feeling period we'll see just how big the difference in talent here it. Yes, Margarito is taller and slugs and can take shots but he is slower does not have the speed, the footwork nor the technique Cotto does, he needs room to get those slugging combos going and must 1st connect to start the chain lest he be outboxed. Cintron was a good fight but not great - it was their 2nd fight too remember and Marg won the 1st 1 round sooner - he just had Cintron's number.

The key here will be Cotto's inside work. Look for him to box Margarito & dive in / out of close proximity & go to the body; this is where Margarito is at a loss because his height is a disadvantage, once Cotto is inside he'll go to town on that torso mark my words.

Ofc there's always a punchers chancew but this is my 2 cents. :bbb

A loss is a loss, but look at the opponents and circumstances.
Margo was holding his own with Santos before the injury curtailed it.Santos would beat Cotto.
The Williams fight was very close.I would give Williams a great chance of beating Cotto TBH,simply due to his size and workrate.

If you say the speed key is a + for Cotto, this may turn out just like Pacquiao vs. David Diaz fight where Diaz says he could stand his punches but he is just too fast. The only exception to that though is Cotto has more power than Pacquiao. We will see what happens tomorrow night. May the best man win.

Margarito = Workrate, and not just soft jab flickering punches....
    (Uppercut's & Bodyshot's for 12 Round's)

Cotto better blast Margo out early, or it will be a very long night for him.
At first I thought if this went 12RDs. it's a gurantee Cotto win....
    Not anymore.

To the contrary, Cotto has been hyped up far more of late- both on these boards and in the general media. Most people consider Margo a limited but tough slugger.

If Cotto is as good as they say, and Margo as bad, then why is everyone so excited about this fight? It should be a blowout.

Cotto certainly doesn't punch harder than Pacman. I'm sorry but I disagree. Pac has true one punch knockout power in his left. I've yet to see Cotto show that.

I dont think Cotto is THAT fast, but it be very pleasing if something like that happened.

To a certain degree they are over hyping the fight, but its understandable because this is a very good match up (style wise) one of the most anticipated welterweight fights in a while, especially a PR vs Mexico type of rivalry. Everyone pretty much knows each fighter well enough, we just need to skip a few hours and get to 9-10pm tomorrow.

Despite some typical HBO/media hype you may hear, this will be a good fight. I think some people are disillusioned by the fact that past couple of HBO fights have been crap, despite them selling it like its the hottest hot cake (Pacquiao v Diaz). Don't worry guys, this isn't a huge mismatch like that of Pacquiao and Diaz. Margarito can actually fight. I think he's gotten a lot of bad rap because alot of people only look at the Clottey fight and think "he looked ordinary", not knowing he won the fight fair and square and was also coming off injuries in camp and a long layoff.

Who has Pac KO'd with "one punch"??? Pac KOs people on accumulation, even the Diaz KO was after a sustained beatdown. I'm sorry man you say some dumb ass things, but to say Pac hits harder then Cotto is down right ******ed

The funny thing is that Ambition actually knows alot about boxing and is a good poster. Its just whenever Margarito is related in any way to the discussion he turns into a ****ing idiot!

So he'll starch him early or win 10 clear rounds to two or something then? I disagree. And I maintain that most people are hyping Cotto, and calling Margo shithouse. Crazy.

  15. Yes, I've not seen the all but I've seen enough - have you seen them all? Say hello to youtube/dailymotion & bittorrent.

I might be right you know...or wrong. But I think I've seen enough & am pretty sure this is what will happen, in fact im 60/40 on the fight not even going the distance tbh.
