Interesting! Margarito retired out of shame, not because he medically couldn't realistically continue a boxing career due to a badly damaged and fragile left orbital bone. :think I learn something new every day on this forum.
he was over rated. his career was managed really well. Anytime he face a HOF quality opponent he got his ass destroyed. He simply isn't on that level. Truth be told he's probably on the level of a berto, cintron, quintana, etc.
What the hell are you talking about? Margarito beat those types into the ground. You can say Margarito was'nt "great" but at least post the truth, the guy was a level well above Berto, Cintron, and Quintana. I'd say he was at least on the level of Miguel Cotto, right below the upper echelon.
Another forgotten detail about why he retired was he tore his Achilles tendon when preparing for his match with Abel Perry, and a torn Achilles really messes you up especially an aging pressure fighter, its hard to be 100% after that..
From the moment he got the handwraps taken away before Mosely and throughout the rest of his career he was pretty much done.
The following things were not overrated. His chin, stamina, excellent inside volume and ability to corner opponents. All of these factors were on display in Pacquiao and Cotto 2 fights.
Margarito was highly overrated. His only solid win, is over Cotto with an asterisk. Mosley beat him down, Pacman beat him down, Cotto beat his ass in the rematch. He was exciting to watch because he had the defense of a heavybag and a great chin, but skilled fighters with stamina beat him easy.
Mosely was almost certainly juiced to the gills in the Margarito fight. Only two people legitimately beat Tony Margarito that was Manny Paquaio. If you've seen the movie Manny you'll hear him say Margarito gave him his toughest ever fight. You see him almost collapse with pain in his ribs. The other was Paul Williams in a close fight that could really have gone either way. A 100% Margarito would have beaten Mayweather & best part is Floyd Knows it
Agreed . Margarito was doing something right , he was one tough B.as**** A pure boxer like Karim "Hard Hitta" Mayfield Praised him and expressed how dangerous he was . "Sparring Margarito, that was one of the most difficult training camps because I wasn't used to that type of pressure," Mayfield said. "He was a big guy, he came to camp at 175 pounds. It prepared me to get ready for a style like that and it gave me a lot of experience. He was pounding other sparring partners. He broke one sparring partner's orbital bone, he broke another kid's ribs, he had been dropping sparring partners two at a time.
