JMM has a fine record against southpaws and is a far more experienced and aggressive fighter than when he lost to Norwood. In addition, I don't think Casamayor is as rugged as Norwood. I think he will stay quicker at the higher weight and he also has the better jab. If he can add busier, that's great, although I don't think it would hurt him if Casamayor was pressing early and working harder, I think that would suit Marquez for the stretch. Having said that, the only way Casamayor can win will be to hunt aggressively for that knockdown and then press, but I think that is a very risky for a fighter who is in part reliant upon trickery and smarts who is also technically less proficient - and older. I will admit that Casamayor has the smarts to surprise me, but I don't think that Marquez is less than sharp himself. Who has a pick? Looking forwards to it? Who do you think will set the pace? How do you think Marquez will adjust to the weight?
I agree. JMM wins in a close but clear UD IMO. Skillwise I think he's better than Casa. A few reasons why I think Casa would trouble him is because of his Southpaw stance, his bag of tricks, his slickness and his power. But I'm pretty sure the very smart JMM can overcome all those. And to answer your questions: Hell yeah I'm excited about this fight!! I think JMM will be the one who will set the pace. But it will be a controlled pace where he's pressing it but only by picking his shots. He shouldn't press too much because Casa will surely make him pay for it. As for the weight. Well that's the million dollar question, in' it? I'm picking JMM on the pretense that he carries his power, speed and punch resistance at 135. If he doesn't, he'll be in a whole lot of trouble. In my opinion though, I think he carries it.
I think Marquez will carry his speed and power, but I worry that he may get bulled by a physically bigger man. Marquez likes to control the range of the fight, and he does this from just inside and just outside the pocket, one as good as the other, I think. Casamayor likes to come all the way inside on occasion - we saw it with mixed results against Kastidis. If he comes all the way in against Marquez and finds he can bull him about a bit, lookout. Marquez would get battered regardless of his speed and power because Casamyor has the heart to stay there. From there, he can affect Marquez's balance and his control of the range. If he is big enough at the weight to avoid being manahandles, I think he will be OK.
The only thing that beats JMM in this fight is the move up in weight and the effect that the heavier punches will have on him. If he can weather the storm, then he outclasses Casa with arguably the best technique in boxing. But I'm a big JMM fan, so I may be biased. lol .
Like I've said before . . . the only factor to consider is how Marquez would take the additional poundage . . . if he takes it well then he should win this by decission.
casamayor is the bigger and the stronger guy. both have good boxing skills and their timing are excellent. but i noticed that casa tires too quickly nowadays. katsidis did recovered from the knockdowns in the early rounds and dominated the mid rounds due to casa's stamina. when this happens marquez would start to operate. either a KO or a wide-decision for marquez. no chance for casa to pull what he did to katsidis this time.
I agree with this analysis but I really think the wildcard here is will Casamayor look his age or not. Tough fight to call but I'm leaning towards JMM.
It should be a good fight.. A superb tech boxer fight one of the slickest today.. Too bad I won't be watching it.. I think Casa's stamina is whats gonna' be the difference in this fight.. JMM has the stamina to go all 12 rounds hard, but I see Casa tiring a lot in the later rounds and possibly even sloppy.. I'll say 8-4 or 7-5 Marquez.. Casa's gettin' old Marquez UD Casamayor
I think Casamayor's gonna turn this into a rugged, bump and grind fight. And I think JMM's gonna get cut. It's gonna look technical, yet "dirty". IMO, the odds are.. 40% JMM UD 30% Casa SD 10% JMM TKO 10% Casa TKO 10% Draw
I'm suprised he is 4-1 fave. Marquez might be fresher but he's lost recently and he's smaller, plus Casa is the champ.
I think this will be a really tough fight for JMM. I do think that he is a fighter who has peaked in his mid-30s, like Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins IMO, but fighters can age overnight. Will he have the stamina at 35 to keep Casamayor off him for 12 rounds? Will Casamayor have the stamina to keep up with JMM? I think this fight is about who handles both the age and the weight better. JMM didn't miss a beat against Pacquiao. I go with Marquez, close but clear UD.
I was with Casa, but it could just be loyalty on my part as he's won me a lot of money in the past. Split on this one.
