which is a shame because it was not a fight.. The people who ordered it were fooled to waste their money and Floyd does not care.
But Mayweather holds the previous record with Pac, so he still has the record. I didn't think Mayweather/McGregor would beat Mayweather/Pac. It was too much of a mismatch from the outset, a lot of people paid for May/Pac to watch Floyd lose and nobody with half a brain thought McGregor would win so all those people paying to watch Mayweather lose didn't tune in.
Yea but they were thinking they could get 6 mill buys and smash the ppv record im happy they didn't get what they want.
OK. So it's the second highest selling PPV then. Why do you sound so prideful in stating this multiple times over? It exceeded the PPV buys that the vast majority expected.
Everyone involved made an absolute killing, unfortunately. But if it's what folks wanted to pay to see, what can you say.
If countries like china or india who have huge populations ever produce a top p4p fighter his records could be broken if not they probably won't.
The Joshua vs Wilder match up if it's built up and promoted properly can break into the top 3. We live in a new era where people are not scared to spend $60-$80 on a fight when it costs $50 for a couple to go to the movies.
Every generation breaks the last generations financial records. Leonard made less money than Tyson and Holyfield, who made less money than De La Hoya, who made less money than Pac and May. Anthony Joshua is already making at 27 the kind of money Floyd was making when he was 30. Wlad Klitschko didn't make as much money as Tyson and Holyfield but he made about 6 times as much as Larry Holmes. Basically, population numbers go up, economies improve, more people have disposable income and they spend it on nonsense like pay per view boxing.
I bet nobody thought that a boxer would earn as much as Tyson (but they did) or be as popular (but they were). Joshua is the next big star. He could eclipse Floyd's numbers due to his style. He's already done a MUCH bigger attendance than Floyd ever did. He's doing or at least very close to doing 1 Million+ PPV buys. He's still got 5-8 years left as well. That could mean major pay days.
Its kind of crazy when you think mayweathers not actually all that good to watch especially for the masses. You can appreciate his skills as a boxing fan but its pretty much not something the masses who arent actually all that big on boxing want to see. The thing is when he was more entertaining less defensive etc in his early career not many wanted to watch him. Mike tyson, anthony joshua...you could see big numbers for these guys. But floyd just shows you how important marketing/the internet/Justin beiber putting it on his twitter etc is.
Could never figure out who all the millions of people are who buy Floyd's fights but nobody elses. GGG-Canelo has fight fans mouths watering but will be lucky to go very much over 1 million ppv's. By now the masses must know that Floyd doesn't bring any real excitement to his fights yet they buy anyway. Floyd mastered the whole ppv concept and made millions upon millions and that is what these guys are in it for. I really can't see anybody out there who is going to be able to do what he did and of course he will never let us forget it. Gotta give the guy credit though, he figured out the game, made crazy money, and never really even got hurt. That's what it is all about '
