Look at where Pacquiao's feet were when that punch landed Every other guy in the division would of touched the canvas.
I am a massive Juan Manuel fan, but I wouldn't read too much into that 2nd fight. Marquez is one of the best counter-punchers in the business. Anyone fights him and you know that Marquez will counter them silly at different stages in the fight; since he reached his peak anyway. The other point about being aggressive without being reckless; very hard to do, since a certain degree of risk goes along with such a come forward attack.
What about Pac's feet? His head and upper body wobbled. He was clearly stunned. It was a great counter punch.
I dont know how long you've studied up on boxing, but I can see where someone would make that point..... .....I guarantee you that Pac and Freddie Roach's game plan was to make JMM fight out of the style he does best.....which is sidestepping and counterpunching. .....but even though the fighters are being aggressive with their punch output, its still a chess match in there with one fighter trying to make the other fighter fight out of their comfort zone. Let me make a comparison.....MAB plan in his rematch with Pac was to get Pac to come at him aggressively. ....darn if Freddie Roach did'nt have Pac prepared for it, they countered that move by MAB by getting Pac to sit back and wait for MAB to come at them. .....In the process, MAB was'nt quick enough or fast enough to outbox Pac from a distance, as MAB was repeatedly getting outjabbed by Pac from distance, and forcing MAB to retreat.....while MAB retreated, he would have loved for Pac to bring it with the pressure as it would have given him opportunities, but unlike what JMM did against Pac, MAB just did'nt have the skillset to force Pac to come at him. Its a chess match in their even when it involves aggressive fighters. ....so to answer your question about JMM having the opportunity to have attacked more coming foward....my answer to you is that if JMM would have attacked more than he did, it would have made him too predictable and easier to hit. With a fighter like JMM who is a good puncher, but not a concussive puncher, he did the right thing by varying the not only the attack, but the intensity of the attack. It kept Pac off balance, and thinking throughout the whole fight. The thinking cap battle is a battle within the war, and JMM won that quite handily! It would have been suicide for JMM to come at Pac with full intensity for long stretches of the fight. Great fighters know how to balance it 1079!
Its not that Pac is detereorating, its that JMM made him look like crap more frequently than you are use to.
Agreed, its still basically the same Pac, the difference being, with all due respect too Erik Morales who on his last stand fought great against Pac in their first fight.....but JMM has been the best fighter that Pac's ever faced! It happens to alot of fighters who reach a high level standing amongst fans, they meet somebody who is just better, and the fans chalk it up to he's on the downslide, he's not hungry...... ....most of the times its bullcrap, and its just that that fighter that made him look dimisnished is actually just a better fighter. It happened to Mike Tyson, and it happened to Oscar Delahoya.
not here. as someone who have watched pac since his earlier days, that fight is the best pac that i saw defensively. even if marquez connected some good combinations most of his other shots were either blocked or evaded. and yes he is going downhill now. what would you expect from someone who had almost 14 years of ring experience with that kind of come-forward style?
In regards to the rematch with MAB I don't realy think that MAB was just waiting for Pac to come forward and counter. I love MAB he was/is a great fighter but that fight it almost seemed like he was there to survive a 12rd decision. In regards to JMM I didn't say for him to come at Pac with full intenity cause that would not be within JMM's character as it was more with EM's character. There were spots were JMM had Pac backing up that he could have afforded to be more aggressive and step on the gas. Thats why in the opening thread i said be more aggrssive without being reckless.
I know what you are referring to but at the end of the day that is what a boxer/counterpuncher does is to take advantage of bad positioning of his opponent after and ill thrown punch or loss of balance. Marquez saw an opening he took it and scored.
......and we saw what that extra aggressiveness got Erik Morales....and I am talking about their first fight. In a fight Morales was controlling and winning handily, he got extra aggressive in the last 2 or three rounds of the fight, even being a fool and turning southpaw..... .....getting away from the plan that was working, and inviting Pac to meet at center ring to clash, made the fight closer on the scorecards than it had to be. ....in fact, Pac hurt Morales during that last round, it could have easily have cost Morales. ....in any regard, it was Morales' last stand, as he went on to look like crap in his next fight against Raheem, and then his KO losses to Pac!
No arguement on that :yep . . . I'm realistic . . . that's why I'm saying between JMM and Hatton . . . it's more likely that Hatton's gonna knock Pacquaio out than JMM.
