I think Rigo's going to be pretty screwed from now on.

In theory, a performance like Rigo just put in against one of the very best fighters on the planet would be enough to catapult most boxers up to the top of the sport.

However, no sooner had Rigo won the biggest fight of his career than he was getting his achievements and future success downplayed. A large chunk of the boxing media were writing off his performance as running, cowardly and bad for the sport of boxing. Many 'fans' were being critical as it didn't deliver the same kind of entertainment that two less skilled fighters in Alvarado and Rios provided the week before. And, as if that wasn't harsh enough, his own promoter was criticising his performance and telling the boxing world that he's going to be hard to promote.

This leaves the question of what the future holds for Guillermo. This should have been a big coming out party that lead to a number of high profile fights against top contenders and champions. However, with media already against his style, the casual fans not buying in and even his promoter seeming cyclical about his future, where does he go next?

Are fighters really going to want to face Rigondeaux and be made to look that bad? Is Arum really going to put any of his other fighters in with him just to be schooled? Are the TV networks going to have much interest in showing a fighter who is criticised by large sections of the boxing media and who is deemed a turnoff for casual viewers?

    Nah.

Next stop for Ri'god' is Cowboys Stadium, with all of the 50,000 seats being filled by boxing fans!

With those dazzling skills who needs to punch?

    Bring it on.

In the mean time I am going to go watch the epic fight again. Need some sleep.

I was just about to post the exact same thread. :good

I'm concerned about what will happen with him now. There's nothing he can do apart from fight all of Donaire's previous opponents, and make do with a reluctant promoter to give them to him. But I fear he and his team won't settle for fights that won't give him the paydays he deserves. This, tragically, may leave him sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

Hopefully Rigo is put in with a non puncher next and someone not so good as Donaire next so he can look like a beast, then if Donaire ko's Juanma looking good it can show why the fight was so cagey, casuals will probably still never get it though

Donaire is taking a break whilst his wife has their child. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets back in the ring before Rigo, even if he takes a rest. It's clear Arum doesn't like Rigo, which is unfortunate. The media should be praising those elite skills rather than jumping all over him and criticising him. Those skills are unique to boxing and are of the highest order. We all like entertaining bouts, but that definition can be used in many ways in boxing. It's not like UFC were it's either an entertaining knockout, or complete utter shite. In boxing there can be an all out war like Rios-Alvarado, and then the next week, two boxers with very high skill levels using all their arsenal to get the better of the other. This is what we seen at the weekend and I enjoyed it as much as Rios-Alvarado II.

He's not powerless and isn't in too bad of a position. At the end of the day, he's beaten one of the best fighters out there, a fight which he mourned for. He's also in possession of the belts and unless he decides to move up, he'll continue to face fighters and make money and that's really all he can do. I wouldn't be too worried for him, unless he's seriously side-lined and made to sit on the shelf, which I doubt will happen seeing as he has got a couple belts.

It's true, but at the same time whoever wants a belt at SBW must come his way. He got the attractive stuff very elusive for Cuban fighters, belts( not just one belt).
Arum wouldn't mind to throw him against Leo or mares if gbp pays him some money.

He is the super bantamweight Wlad Klitschko. He will probably be banned from New York after all those boo's. Wouldn't you agree?

It's clear Rigo needs to leave top rank.

Just going by what I have been told in the past on here. Boo's + scathing articles about boring fights are not good. Why should Rigo be any different?

There is no way all those fans plus the Boxing media have an agenda against him.

He is going to have to throw more punches or suffer the backlash from the fans and media. That is how it works. Sorry.

    i'm not he's fine.

People are talking about him. Its a good thing. Every thread on this forum is about him.

He will never be a superstar, however he's in alot better place now than he was prior to this.

He's gone from an undercard fighter to a headliner all in one night.

This is coming from the Klitschko obsessed guy who has such little understanding of the sport that he genuinely asserted that using footwork and head movement to make your opponent miss is 'just as bad' as grabbing hold of, clinching and then leaning down on an opponent to stop them from punching.

    :rofl

Kilttards and their insecurity complex :patsch
