I think people sometimes forget that Tarver is an above average puncher at 175, and Dawson has exactly the type of chin that he'll be able to crack. Tarver will have some trouble with him in the early going by around the 5th or 6th round I think Tarver's going to land something meaningful and finish him off.
If Tarver hurts Dawson then he will finish him off. He has pretty good finishing skills, but he hasn't had anyone that hurt in any of his recent fights.
Well.. it won him another major title, no? And regardless of what some may think about his overall competition he's still a solid fighter, as well as a good puncher. And Dawson still has shaky whiskers.
If Tarver lands something significant on Dawson, which I feel he will, then there's no doubt in my mind he'll be able to finish him off.
Loads of people seem to really rate Dawson on here. I've only caught his fight against Johnson and wasn't too impressed. Are there any fights inparticular where he's really shown something special that I should check out?
Tarver is a true puncher at lightheavyweight. He will always have that to fall back on. It's just a question of whether or not Antonio shows up to fight. Tarver is so inconsistent.
I think as of late Tarver's just been shaking off the rust after the long layoff from losing to Hopkins. I think Tarver's going to take the Dawson fight very seriously.
Were you thinking he'd blow out Glen Johnson, or dominate him? Granted his chin didn't look all that impressive, but besides that I don't really see what's wrong with his performance. Glen Johnson isn't going to let you roll all over him, he's there to bring it. It was a close, competitive fight that Dawson edged out, just like it should be.
