Nah. One fight doesn't do that to fans. Nobody fought like those guys. Generational type fighters. Fans always pay to see who they think is a great fighter. Always. These guys lack something whether it's cross over appeal or something.

No it really does. I know a lot of casuals that quit and moved on to MMA for good because of that fight.

No, I just talk to people. A lot fight fans that actually pay for events weren't buying a lot of boxing PPVs already because they felt like the best don't fight the best guys unlike in MMA and then the Mayweather Pacquiao fight happened and it was a boring fight so a lot of them just said they quit after that. You can even just go on messageboards to confirm this. A lot of people now won't even stream boxing matches, let alone pay for them.

Well the "P4P and PPV King" just retired little over a year ago so that's a big deal in this conversation.

The biggest PPV ever, where a much larger percentage of people bought and watched a boxing PPV than ever before, in a matchup hyped by media and fans alike for five years, just happened a year and a half ago and the guy who 90% of paying viewers were passionately rooting against won. It's America. Actual boxing fans, hardcore and casual, are all emotional over it to this day so naturally the flocks of not-even-casual-fans were sad and upset. For a sport so fringe to catching their interest to begin with, that easily and swiftly turned them off since most were expecting a Mike Tyson fight from the two near forty year olds when the lot of repeat customers, so few in recent years, knew to wager their wits on a 12 round decision.

For some reason, there are tons of boxing fans who don't acknowledge anything below 140 pounds. And that's a shame since those weights have been rolling along just fine these days and is much better than everything above 140 pounds. That counts huge toward the wasted opportunity for great fighters and great action fights to be viewed by masses.

Canelo is pulling good US PPV numbers in his career and seems to have taken the mantle.

Either way, writers and journalists and fans have been seeing the headline "Boxing is dying!" since Jack Dempsey retired. The drum beats on.

It takes extensive research in order to find out if boxing fawns switched over to watching MMA.

I wouldn't call casual fight fans boxing fans, but really man you can just talk to people. If you don't believe me you can just find some general messageboard and ask them. You'd have to inflate those numbers and then take into consideration that anyone you ask isn't even quite a casual since they are on a forum in the first place, but you'll still get the picture. It's pretty bad man. In America at least. Like other posters have said in the UK their PPV market has been pretty good.

This here. Not sure if they're watching MMA now, but I have a couple of friends that make me talk to the hand when I try to bring up boxing after that hundred dollar fiasco.
