I think theres a good chance Canelo can hurt Floyd

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Macwitdacheese, Aug 27, 2013.

  1. If Canelo can land enough of those bombs on Floyd, he can hurt him.

Canelo looked good today watching his workout. His work on the heavy bag looked spot on. The punches were crisp, fast and seemed to have some power.

Why does everyone dismiss Canelo already? This is the first jmw Floyd has faced. Cotto and Oscar aren't true jmw.

    Anyone agree? :think

What makes someone a true JMW?

  3. Well who has had more fights at 154 Cotto Oscar or Canelo?

Canelo. However, Oscar had 9 fights at JMW or above compared to 11 for Alvarez. Furthermore, you still didn't answer the question. What makes someone a true JMW?

  5. I gave you my answer. I think if a fighter has a decent amount of fights in a certain weight class then he is a true fighter for that particular weight class.

And I also dint understand why people say Canelo is too big for JMW.

Trout rehydrates to abouts 170 - nobody gives him ****
Kirkland was 174 for the Molina fight - nobody gives him ****
Angulo was 174 as well for Lara - nobody gives him ****

Isn't this the reason why people defend the CW with Canelo? :-(

How many fights is a decent amount of fights? Hoya had 9 at JMW or above, yet you said he's not a true JMW.

  7. What if I say 10 just to be a Dick? I wont. Ill say Oscar was accustomed to that weight. But he was way past prime but managed to have SOME success.

Cotto was past it too and managed to rough Floyd up in spots which is very rare.

Maybe Floyd had a bad night or under estimated Cotto? Who knows but I dont think he did it for the fans at all.

I dont think Canelos fight will look like the Ghost fight at all. Floyd will have to dig deep.

I don't think anyone has a problem with canelo @154, it's just he canelo has mostly faced blown up welterweights and smaller guys. The Lopez fight comes to mind, although canelo was trying to fight other guys but they fell through.

Also the weight is an issue because mayweather is considered a little guy who can't make the 154" weight limit. I don't see a problem with the catch weight it's a compromise to make the fight both guys agreed too, canelo and his handlers don't think it's a problem.

  9. I don't think the CW is justified at all. Floyd gives people ammunition to discredit him.

If Canelo loses, which I think will most likely happen, everyone is going to say drained etc.

Why not just do it at 154? Floyd even going against his prior statements :patsch

I don't think Floyd really cares about keyboard warrior opinions in terms of the weight. He will get millions and be in the hall of fame, nobody will ever agree who is the greatest of all time.

  11. Because we didn't join a boxing forum to discuss boxing and weights and all that comes with it.

Nobody is a keyboard warrior here. Just fans discussing

He Definitely Contradicted himself and admits too it openly. He only said those things to take a swipe at and Discredit Pacquiaos wins. If canelo looks bad I'm sure the cw will be used as an excuse, no doubt there at all. They both agreed to it, canelo n team say its no problem, so I feel it's not a issue.

Canelo is the young up n comer, he called for the fight and had to give a little to make the fight. It's the way the game goes. I always felt if canelo was going to fight Floyd he was going to have to make the fight. He would have to give and agree to terms fair or not, he has his shot so he has to make the most of it.

How was Oscar way past his prime when he was a current champion? Past their prime or not, Cotto and Hoya were both still pretty good fighters when they fought Mayweather. Mayweather is past his prime, but he's still pretty good as well.

Serious question. Why is it that when Floyd fights De La Hoya who was only 4 years older than him (30 and 34) and when he fights Cotto who's 3 years younger (35 and 32)

    Its considered past prime.

But when Mayweather fights guys 10 years his jr. its okay?

    Floyd-Ghost (36-30)
    Floyd-Ortiz (34-24)
    Floyd-Canelo (36-23)

Thats a serious question. Why is there a double standard?
