From now until March there isnt much time to do real promotion but theyve been using these press releases to get tons of basically free publicity. There is already huge public interest in the fight. They already stand to make a fortune in March but I think they can make even more money by canceling the fight, creating "bad blood" between the two and if they do this fight sometime around August/September they will make even more money. There is too much money to not do it but usually super fights like this arent rushed so I can only imagine they are pushing it back because they think they can make more money with more promotion time.
Then they are idiots because anything can happen between now and the fall. Freak injuries, freak upsets, personal problems for either fighter, etc. TIME KILLS ALL DEALS and you have to strike while the iron is hot. This fight will never be bigger than it is now. If they keep dragging this "controversy" out it will just alienate people and taint the event. Enough already!!
exactly. They took an A level, pure sporting event and have turned it into a circus and turned a clean cut athlete who was doing great things for boxing in the mainstream, and cast a huge shadow over him now. All boxing has to show for this now is another huge black eye. Shame on everyone involved.
maybe.....to increase hype...coz right now...march is too soon....by fall next year...everyone on the planet is locked on this fight....
Well if the powers that be, the negotiators, are doing this deliberately to set up the fight at a later date next year, then I hope something goes wrong & it all blows up in their faces. There is not time like the present so they should make the fight. March 13th is the date all us fans have been waiting for, only for some guys to come along & decide to change the date or sabbotage March 13th for a later date. IF this is just a plot then I hope it goes wrong for them. If it goes wrong, maybe they will learn a harsh lesson from it!
I highly doubt that PAC would agree to such purposeful hyping or throwing away as you suggest, at his expense. But if it were the case, they're seriously going about this the wrong way. It's bull**** !!
I will just be shocked if this fight doesnt come through in some fashion. Most potential fights get ruined over disagreements on money, location or date. They are both happy with 50/50, Vegas and March 13. I dont remember ever seeing a fight get thrown out over minor details like gloves or ring size which I would put PED testing in the same category as minor details.
I dont think it necessarily has to be everybody in on it. Only one team is needed to decline signing the final contracts to throw the fight out. I havent really seen anything directly from Floyd. Pac has made statements but it was about the accusations of PED use and not really about the fight negotiations. Its mostly Arum and Shaftner in the press. Actually, Im rooting for Floyd but I think its more likely his side is doing this, they have the final say now if the fight goes on because Arum is going to use Paulie M as a back up and already made their counter offer on the testing issue. Floyd's team did push back the JMM fight and what was a fight that was slow on sales ended up doing over a million PPV's.
This. A damn ****in shame what's gone down here. All because of a crackhead. I still can't get over that one...
