check out Benitez when he fought Hearns. Hearns hits everyone and he could not hit Benitez clean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etcQzDZO-Ik

Watch the first round of Leonard-Benitez. I think Leonard was 0-for-25 on right hands.

Wasn't Pep the only boxer in history to win a round without throwing a punch ? I recall the judges giving a round based on his elusiveness, im sure of it.

Didn't Roy Jr. do it against Vinnie Paz? And announce ahead of time that he would? But, yes, I believe Pep did.

Not quite in the same league as those mentioned; but someone who always made me think "Gee he is good at not getting hit" was Johnny Famechon.

Damn.... Locche was a badass

Imagine if Locche had other attributes other than his defense.

great fight and performance but jones took a round with TAKING a single punch from paz (the 5th i believe) while pep won it without throwing a punch.

Agreed. Whitaker was the most well-rounded and versatile pure boxer I've ever seen. In that I mean no fighter who's been as lacking in power (though he did have more pop than most give him credit for when he sat down on his punches) was as skilled and effective in so many different areas. He could fight on the inside with the best, relying on his defensive reflexes, counter punching, and punch placement to see him come off best in exchanges. He was a terrific body-puncher. His offensive arsenal was one of the most complete you'll see, despite his lack of bone-chilling power. This to go along with his skills off the backfoot and in pure boxing mode, where he was pretty much unbeatable.

The best pure boxer ever, IMO. However, as far as pure defense goes, I'd say there were a few others on the same level, perhaps even slightly more efficient due to the fact that their game relied on it moreso (take Locche for example).

If only there were any kind of evidence of that whatsoever, rather than a nostalgiac and sentimental claim from Bert Sugar.
