Tyson should be a favorite, but the ref would definitely be an X factor (I'm saying Holyfield was dirty as hell).

I agree of course the head butts and the steroid issue has to be factored in.

    Seen Tyson-Ruddock 2?

Tyson was plenty dirty himself. He just didn’t take it back in return so well.

Ironically, many people I knew, including myself, were picking Holyfield to win in 1991. We'd all heard about Tyson hitting the deck in sparring, and then Douglas happened. But it was the Ruddock fights that seemed to clinch it. When the time came to show what he was made of post-Tokyo, Tyson just traded bombs, ate far too many of them, too often threw single punches then looked to see if Razor was still standing. It was pretty sobering.

I say "ironically" because five years later the same bunch of people, including myself, were picking Tyson over Holyfield, not because Tyson had gotten any better but because we believed Holyfield to be a totally spent force. I didn't overestimate Tyson but underestimated Holyfield. Tyson put on exactly the performance I expected. Holyfield did not.

I guess the upside to my foolishness is that I don't rely on 1996 to believe that Holyfield would have won in 1991 because I base it on Tyson's decline that was alarmingly evident in his 1991 fights against Ruddock -- an approach that he attempted to replicate in 1996.

    I don't but it's not completely outrageous.

I’m picking Tyson. Holyfield wasn’t Roided up enough in 91 and if he had trouble with Cooper- which he did he is definitely going to be in a world of hurt against Tyson. I think in 91 Tyson would be more motivated than he was later on also.

this is a truth . also it is same for happens with Holyfield. he beats the Tyson in 1996 & most fall for it that he's back ' better than before"" instead of already bashed over the place by Bowe & is actual long past days best. slower also. old & already come from outside of retirement.

this is same for both side. honest realism. recognizing both boxers long ways past already. this is ignored for pretend the era was so strong. I belief it was glorify too much now the 1996 era. I miss these fights but honest this was 2 fade away boxers from almost 10 years previous

so Holyfield is never much of good at all anyways??

yes this is might be. could be overrateds.

but did Mike Tyson ever beat anyone this good also?
what victory wins has Tyson hangs his hat on?

    could be boths overrateds.
I belief this boxers were ok good champions & but not in class of greats example Louis & Ali

By 1991 Mike had started to check out mentally. His desire to box, his hunger wasn't the same as it was when he came up. Physically he still had ability. Mike could possibly win if he overwhelms Holyfield with his offensive attack early.
I don't see Evander going anyway at that time. He was hungry and determined. He may go down but he would make it through the storm. Tyson at that time doesn't want to see the other side of that. Mike was unraveling because Razor Ruddock wouldn't quit in their rematch. He started fouling.
My $ would be on Holyfied

Tyson was a dirty fighter at that time as well. Hitting after the bell, on the break, hitting low.

Nobody put him down after or came close to stopping him again until the 2000s.
