Totally agree with your discussion. The number of debates I've had about RJJ - who obviously was done after HW - is ridiculous. But I do think that seeing a fighter lose fuels ammunition in some quarters which would otherwise not have been there. Best to retire a fight too early IMO than a fight too late.

While some fans might want him to retire undefeated, ala Marciano, to cement that unique legacy - the reality is boxing is also called prizefighting for a reason, and there are more big fights for Usyk to increase his winnings. And so, he will almost certainly fight on.

The reality is though, when it’s a fight early the fighter still lives in regret wanting another go.

this is why it’s rare for someone who truly pushed themselves to retire undefeated

Most fighters don’t really fight for money, that’s just what they tell people to justify what they do.
    Money is just a reward

Losing and then coming back from that loss is the kind of stuff that great Champions do. It’s what the whole Rocky series is about. It resonates with people because it’s truth.

Nothing left for Usyk to prove. He should just do what he wants to do from now.

It's not only about legacy, at least to me.

It's great to see guys leave the game with their brains and health intact.

You just have to look at Ali's later years or Mike Tyson stumbling around in the ring without remembering it. James Toney trying to form a complete sentence, ... to see boxing is not good for a person's health.

Usyk will be 38 by the time he fights again. He's already past his expiration date as far as boxing goes.

"Lose it all" , "Retire a legend" ?
What can he lose? He's already a legend. This is a stupid thread.
