He's already shredded, and more muscular than we can see from the cameras. I saw him with USS one summer during his hiatus, and they were almost identical, and this while USS was campaigning at HW.
Ward is in the gym all year round, even when he wasn't boxing. I highly doubt he could drop 8 more lb's and fight healthy. Problem with Ward is he's not confident in throwing his right hand since his surgery, for whatever reason.
You make it seem like Ward wouldn't easily dispatch of; Jack, Degale, Zurdo, Andre Dirrell or triple G. If you think that you don't know boxing. Ward would do the exact same thing to them that he did to Kovalev, without any of the struggle.
You think Al Haymon would allow Jack to be robbed? K2 allow GGG to be robbed after KOing Ward in a handful of rds? Hearn would allow DeGale to be robbed? Arum allow Zurdo to be robbed? Kovalev 116-111. But NOOOOO.....Sergey wanted to give the crowd and the 160K ppl who paid to see it on PPV a show and ALLOWED Ward to live. Wards fate will be that of Simakovs if Virgil dont save his life after the 3rd KD in the 4th rd.
IDK what you're talking about my breh. I just know the idea of having Ward drop down 7lbs after he spent a year+ putting on weight the right way is a recipe for disaster.
You said to the effect that Ward would easily "dispatch" the current titlists at SMW, when the FACTS are that he's NEVER beaten a slick CPer with power like Andre Dirrel. Nor has he beaten a SP who could throw hard body shots like DeGale. He beat Froch, who fights similarly to Jack, except Jack is bigger, throws more precise shots and takes it downstairs to slow his opponents down when time comes to take control. Sure, Jack dont have Carls chin, but not many do, and Ward isnt exactly the type to capitalize on that deficiency anyways. And Zurdo.....he mandhandled the face first brawler Abraham. Ward hid behind his jab and run from his winging shots. And GGG...no way he lets Ward out of the first rd if he'd hurt Ward with a jab.....Kovalev wanted to extend the fight for the fans. Not the smartest fighter for sure. GGG.....would NEVER let Ward off the hook.
I see no reason for Ward to go down to 168. He is a natural LHW and so far has done pretty well at that level. He is looking at some big fights (rematch with Kov, unification with Stevenson) with far more money and fame then anything at 168.
I think he can jump and unify cruiser, though it would be a rocky, career-shortening road. May as well try it, now hes bigger. theres nothing to do at 168 thats hes not already done. He has to finish his attempt to unify at 175 first of course. KOvalev rematch and Adonis for lineal.
Kovalev got robbed and the judges at the ring side were bribed. Ward should give him the rematch so there's no need to talk about going back to 168.
The whole point of Ward moving to 175 is that he's seeking Greatness. The cards are a little stacked against him at 175, so big wins mean a lot more there. He can become a Calzaghe level Great if he stayed at 168, but he wants to be in the mix with the higher end ATGs and leave a huge mark on this sport. He's already proved enough how good of a fighter he was at 168. I'm all for this move and I hope other boxers can learn from him.
Credit to him for moving up to face Kovalev but in essence his move up was probably far more to do with the lack of big fights at 168 combined with the increasing struggle to make 168 as he aged. Simply put if he wanted that HBO contract they required that he had to have a big fight to justify the money - that meant Golovkin or Kovalev. Who else was there? So yeah, props for 'daring to be great', but if he wanted the big $s Dre had little choice.
