Watch, Listen and Enjoy. A man with a true passion for the sport: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rz8cmqjfWBA#t=444s RIP Manny
I always remember his commentary from the Berto-Ortiz and Gatti-Ward fights too. "GO TO THE BODY!" What a man.
As an American who has watched so many big fights on HBO, it's just not gonna be the same without Manny...thanks for posting this.
Thank you. Like Reppin said, it won't be the same. Boxing is going through what baseball went through a few years ago: the deaths of those in the Golden Age. In baseball it was Mantle, Dimaggio, and a core of broadcasting greats like Jack Buck and Ernie Harwell. In boxing we are getting to Frazier and Arguello, now Steward. It is always sad when the heroes and legends die.
I got tears in my eyes listening to that. I am still shocked! For those lifelong fans of the sweet science like myself, these trainers and commentators are more than just people on TV. We grew up watching and admiring these people. Boxing will never be the same. Much love and respect to the great Emanuel Steward.
I just turned on the old Cpu 15 minutes ago and was talking with 1 of my sales reps scrolling on fightnews.com and saw the tragic news. This sucks, manny was still doing his thing in full effect and now, he's GONE? I like RJJ and all, but nobody will replace manny at the boadcast table. NOBODY
It really will not be the same. I always thought the traditional lineup would just "be around"...but clearly time passes and things change, odd feeling to have something so constant just not there anymore. RIP Manny, you'll be missed.
Commentating sucks nowadays. Too hype-based and not enough contributive info about the sport and game/fight that's going on. Not just boxing but many other sports. NBA, NFL at times, just awful. (Coaching/Training too). Commentators/trainers like Manny are a credit to the sport(s) they do and he really will be missed. Fair to see I will continue to be using the mute button a lot.
