Very good comparison. Dont 100% agree, I think Fury is stronger than Spinks and Wilder much stronger than Tucker, but it's a good argument. And you may wind up close to being right, if Fury and Wilder lay eggs the rest of their careers.

    Crap!
Ill take Holyfield,Tyson and Bowe at there best vs those 3 guys any day of the week.
Dw gets starched by Tyson, Holyfields high pace takes AJ into deep water and drowns him, Riddick kos Fury.

    Pretty much agree with this.

Fury looked like hot garbage last time he fought. He had exactly one fight where he looked truly masterful and that was against OLD Wlad who was missing half his marbles. I question whether he'll ever regain his form.

Wilder looks like he's on the verge of losing almost every time he fights. He's like a KO on stilts, even against bums.

AJ looks the best of the lot so far and even he nearly got sparked clean out by the oldest version of Wlad ever to enter the ring.

Povetkin who is fairly creaking along in years, is one of the top 3 HW's and still knocking guys out or dominating them.

This era is in no way stronger than the one that we just had.

It might become so, but so far t'ain't looking good.

Plus, everyone from the late 80s/90s era was juiced to the max. Every fight looks like its a lot wilder, rougher and tougher eye candy when everyone is taking more steroids than a champion racehorse.

There is a lot of truth to what you say. People have a strange compulsion to knock the current era and big up past ones. Partly because they want to seem knowledgeable. But with time, people's evaluation become more accurate, and the same will happen with the current era. People use to think the Federer-Nadal-Djokovic-Murray era was weak, but it will be recognised as one of the strongest.

The sole reason this era will never compare?

Top guys not fighting each other.

Guys like Tyson/Lewis fighting each other and getting in the ring with Bruno......

Wilder won't even fight Whyte ffs.

I don't care what people say about the Klitshcko era, they fought top 10 guy after top 10 guy.
Sure, the standard wasn't nowhere near as high as the previous era...but that's not their fault.

Wilder had completely destroyed the division, never entertaining a fight with Wlad/Vitali or even Haye.

Only thing is for most of them you have to take away about 31% of talent also.

    Heavyweight boxing is ****

The matches have been made. It's time to make it official.

    Who wins out of 2018 v 1987?

    1. Joshua v Tyson (AJ's chin can't take Iron Mike's wallop) 1987 takes it: 10-8.

    2. Fury v Spinks (Based on Fury's last start, Spinks. I'm going to factor in steady improvement from Fury during the course of the year though & give it to him on the basis that he's quite a bit bigger & stronger. Not completely clear-cut to my mind. Think Spinks - Cooney.) 2018: 10-9

    3. Wilder v Tucker (Wilder much more potent offensively but Tucker had a great chin. Could easily see Tucker closing the show late like he did against Buster Douglas while behind on the cards.) Not entirely comfortable with how I've scored this one for the reason stated but I've given it to 2018: 10-9 (close)

    4. Usyk v Holyfield (I've scored a couple of close ones to 2018 so I'm inclined to swing back the other way for this one. Nfi who would actually win but I'll go Holy). 1987: 10-9 (close)

    5. Parker v Bonecrusher (I'd need to see how Parker goes against Whyte before calling this one but since I've given the last couple of rounds to 1987, 2018 takes it.) 2018: 10-9 (close)

    6. Miller v McCall (Fair dinkum, I don't want to shirk my judging responsibilities but this is tough. McCall is possibly the toughest human being I've ever seen. Mike Tyson dropped off significantly when he stopped sparring with him. Miller might have a bit more skill.) I'm being very generous to 2018 here: 10-9 (close)

    7. Povetkin v Biggs (Thank goodness for that. About time we had an easy one. Povetkin takes it comfortably.) 2018: 10-8

    8. Ortiz v Buster (2018 has been gifted too many rounds for my liking. The legend that is Buster Douglas wins this one.) 1987: 10-9

    9. Whyte v Bruno (Frank is a legend. Whyte is a goose.) 1987: 10-9

    10. Breazer v Razor (1987 sweeps the late rounds. Razor Ruddock on the way up has too much.) 1987: 10-9.

    Final scores under the 10-point must system: 2018 - 94, 1987 - 94. Five rounds apiece with a 10-8 round each way.

    Ladies & gentlemen, it's a draw.

A lot of close rounds that could have gone either way, but that's how I saw it.
