From first bell Barker was taking the centre of the ring and pushing forward with a high guard. He was throwing the 1-2 and couldn't really get combinations off.

I think he thought that his physical strength would wear Martinez down or something? Martinez is so comfortable on the backfoot though and can get in and out of range very quickly. When Barker was coming forward like that, he was playing into Martinez's hands imo.

I have seen Barker box and move. I thought he should have stood off and moved more and made Martinez come to him. Standing there with a high held guard was not working and he actually got knocked out while doing it.

If he had adopted a moving strategy it would have made Martinez work harder and he might have been able to catch him with that 1-2 as Martinez was coming in or a left hook.

Crazy tactics to stand in front of Martinez with a high guard like that imo.

I was really disappointed in the way it ended, I was hoping that Barker would survive to the bell to lose a gallant effort on points, never thought he was gonna win but thought that a points loss was not the end of the world for Darren

Ko loss brings all the 'glass jawed Brits' 'he quit' 'fight was fixed' idiots out from under their stones

Yeah, it was that crazy that it frustrated Martinez, kept him out of range and neutralized alot of his work.

He fought in the only way he knows how, and that is to win.

For this he deserves applause not criticism.

I thought he gave martinez a hard time in parts had it level until the stoppage i do think had it gone to points martinez would off won, but credit where its due barker done well, lot off positives to come out off his performance for me and he will become a better fighter from this experiance

He couldn't do what you're saying here because Martinez has superior footwork. You can have all the ideas in the world about being patient and boxing off the backfoot and using boxing skills or whatever but if the other guy wants to do the same thing invariably the guy with better crisper footwork will be successful.

Bottom line is Barker did all he could do to the limits of his ability in this fight and overall did a very decent job in there.

    Yep.

Just because a boxer goes on the back foot it doesn't mean Martinez is going to come raging in Ricky Hatton style and leave himself open. Barker would've been caught trying to counter because Martinez would be feinting or doubling up.

Barker went 'Crolla' and did a decent job.

Don't really care about his tactics, fact is he took a dive or quit for whatever reason. The punch that sent him down hit his gloves and was not a full connected punch.

No way that would have stopped him.

It appears that it perforated his ear drum. What would you know about being punched by a professional fighter, internet warrior?

I think Barker was genuinely hurt by an accumulation of shots
