I thought Beterbiev would be figured out at top level, but he's too physically strong

I have always thought highly of him . Especially early in his career. It was just a matter of time and that time has come

 

Aside from the Nail he has really fought no one. In fact he dodged Joe Smith Jr..

He gets sold a bit short in the skills department (including by me in the past, I'll admit) - but some people still overrate him and overlook a lot of his deficiencies that he's able to spackle over w/ raw power..

 

He must be a lot more skilled than given credit for. Usually being skilled is linked to having the reach/height advantage and boxing around with jab and movement, though. If you're the stumpier guy almost every time, it's going to normally be some kind of pressure approach, and you risk being called a caveman or some such. The only way to avoid that, really, is to grapple inside a lot and fight dirty-defensively, especially headbutts and nutshots, then you'll be 'slick' again.

 

Beterbiev is far better from a technical standpoint than given credit for. Something even I admit to not realizing a number of years back.

 

I watched the fight several times. Gvoz went to the hospital with bruising to the back of his head. I dont know if they were intentional but those big shots were definitely landing on the back of the head. The body shots did a lot of damage but I don’t see how you can say the rabbit punches didn’t do major damage. Have you ever been hit on the back of the head? There is a reason it’s not legal. Beterbiev is a very good fighter, best at LW but he’s lucky Gvoz isn’t a big star. Refs would never allow a fighter to hit Canelo or a big money star on the back of the head. If that was Andre Ward in Oakland, Beterbiev would have been DQd. He’s better than Ward but got away with punches that night that would not be allowed against a star.

 

There is a reason no one wants to fight this guy. He’s a beast. Also, not a big money name so it’s a classic high risk low reward fight. I expect lots of excuses from potential opponents. Hope he gets the big fights he deserves. One thing is certain, don’t hold your breath for Andre Ward to come out of retirement and fight AB. Maybe Canelo or an easier guy but ABs ascent to the LH throne has pretty much closed the door for Ward. I’d love to see the fight because it would shut Wards big mouth for good.

 

The guy is a monster, shame that he really can't get any real fights.

 

In what context? How he stands up in the modern landscape, historically h2h or just the asinine hyperbolic nonsense that people in general on here tend to post about fighters they like?

I'd still give the guy a few good shot at fully unifying LHW(and CW if he decides that's the path he wants and politics don't get in the way) inb4 the latter counts as overrating him.

 

Stop acting like he has only a good physic! Beterbiev is not only strength, and he show that against Gvozdyk(who put Adonis in a hospital)
