BJ is 1 of my all time fav`s but I thought he lost tonight.

I gave Penn a 1st close rd then Fitch a 2nd close rd but the 3rd was ALL Fitch... this is why I liked the Pride way of scoring the fight as an entirety rather than rd by rd.

How can you fight a guy on even terms for 2 rds, rds that can go either way, then dominate the 3rd rd & end up not winning ?... it doesnt make sense.... & all because 2 judges gave the same guy those 2 50/50 rds... the 3rd rd should have been the decider & even BJ admitted it was, he knew he lost, thats why I love the guy, he`s a true fighter.

    R1: Penn 10-9
    R2: Penn 10-9
    R3: Fitch 10-8

    Result: Draw 28-28

I think the result was fair, going by the current judging system.

Fitch got 2 mounts in round two. Penn got 1.

Fitch was robbed he did the better work in round two.

I hated the decision until BJ said he would retire if he loss. I'm glad we get to see em in there again :thumbsup

  5. It's upto the judging system like popkins said.......

The fight could of went either a draw or fitches way. Penn might have had the favourable outcome but it is hardly worth having a teary over.

I just posted this in another thread:

I don't think there is any way in hell either fighter deserved the victory regarding Fitch vs Penn. Penn was the only person close to finishing the fight in the first 2 rounds, but Fitch deserves credit for not getting finished. Though Fitch was in a few bad positions in the first two rounds, he never looked like he was helpless. Fitch made Penn look helpless for around 75% of the last round, but looked like the only way he could win is by submission due to frustration. Fitch was dominant in the last round, but his shots were barely doing more than enough damage than to keep the fight from being stood up. Fitch also didn't threaten with any submission attempts.

I would have been sickened a bit to see either person's hand raised in victory.

Much respect and props to BJ Penn for executing a brilliant game plan. When was the last time we've seen anybody take down Jon Fitch like that?
When was the last time somebody had his back like that? For nearly two rounds, the grinder, was getting grinded.

Jon Fitch endured (as he always does), and came back with ferocity in the third round. Pinning BJ up against the fence and pummeling him with short strikes. Not
many guys survive when a fresh BJ Penn takes their back. It's more often than not an omen that the fight is nearly over.

As entertained as I was with this fight, I wouldn't at all mind seeing it again. Both guys fought their asses off.

Penn took Fitch down and took his back in the second round. Fitch did absolutely nothing. He got on top and did no damage. There is no basis to score that round for Fitch. None. Not under any scoring system.

Penn got robbed. He won 2 rounds to 1 against a much larger opponent by doing what nobody thought he could do.

Do you know what a "mount" is? You're saying Fitch passed BJ's guard twice in round 2? You watched a different fight guy.

    Round 1 - Penn 10 - 9

A decisive clear winner in the round for me , had Fitch's back , secured a TD , was very competetive in the clinch , kept the pressure on Fitch , and stayed on the feet during Fitch's prelonged efforts to take him down at the end of the round .

    Round 2 - Penn 10 - 9

Again no stand up exchanges to report , Penn secured a big TD and again taking Fitch's back , this time nearly securing a RNC , Fitch finished the round strong with a sweep / reversal and 90 seconds of effective G & P from a top position that came from a Penn TD , octagon control and aggression with Penn for me in this round , the fact he had Fitch's back and nearly submitted him was more decisive than Fitch's G & P at the end of the round .

    Round 3 - Fitch 10 - 8

    Enough said :deal

    Result - A Draw

Lets not forget that the 2 times Fitch reversed Penn's back control , was when BJ was looking to advance position and finish the fight , again , aggression , aggressive JJ looking to end the fight , should in theory score points

Please, I wanted Penn to win too but you cannot say that Fitch has no claims for that 2nd rd & even if you give BJ those 1st two rds, they cannot under any circumstances be scored wider than 10-9 & the 3rd rd was AT LEAST 10-8 in Fitch`s favour.... no way you can score this fight for BJ IMO, a draw under the current score system is the best you could give BJ, a draw or a Fitch win.

In reality, Fitch won the fight & BJ knows it too.... Im proud of Penn & Id LOVE for him to submit or KO that Fitch **** in a rematch as he is a better fighter p4p but thats the key words.. p4p, he`s just not big or strong enough.

Penn won the first 10-9, Fitch won the last 10-8. The second is where it rests.

    Similar case to Machida-Rampage.
