The only success Johnson had was an occasional right hand, maybe 6 or 7 landed flush, and he ate combos by Froch after every one. Johnson hasn't been defeated this decisively in quite some time.
i actually scored the rounds in favour of Johnson by 1 point but though Froch probably edged it. A lot of frochs shots were just bouncing of Johnsons guard. It was a close fight, a lot of close rounds, all I can say is that this bout convinced me that Ward will beat beat Froch decisively
Your right, my main malfunction is with the "Froch won comfy crowd...like by more than 3 rounds". Johnson's runnin low on gas in the last hurt him.
A clear win for Froch imo. Johnson landed a few big big eye-catching shots, but Froch landed far more over the course of the fight and never looked in trouble (I will admit that a lot of Froch's punches were blocked). Those Johnson punches probably looked far worse to a spectator than it felt to Froch, he just sucked them up and came back punching which must have been very dispiriting to Johnson. Froch's chin is something else though. No way Ward knocks him out, ever. Andre could load his gloves with C4 and he still ain't knocking him out. I think we'll see Ward working to the body and pulling out every dirty trick in the book.
My point was that these combos were oftentimes picked off by Johnson's gloves, as you could see in replays. I suspect 2 of the judges were not watching closely and misled by the flashy rather pitty pat stuff.I rather like a couple hard right hands in a round than 5 rather ineffective combos.
Froch controlled the distance, controlled the pace of the fight, had an answer to every punch Glencoffe Johnson threw, he came back everytime Johnson teed off with his right hand. Johnson shouldn't be awarded with more than 3-4 rounds won, and thats being gentle to him. This one he lost quite decisively, as Irländsk pointed out.
Froch won based off activity period. Johnson fought very methodical and didn't let his hands go enough, but when he did he landed the harder more effective punches easily. Froch looked good bouncing combos off a johnson's arms and gloves but he didn't do as much clean work in my opinion. The johnson from the RJJ fight who had more bounce in his legs would've have beat Froch easily, maybe even stopped him.
People need to rewatch this and pay CLOSE ATTENTION to punches that land. Glen picks of a lot shots with his gloves. It was close. It is certainly not unreasonable to favour Johnson on clean hard punches and aggressiveness in this one.
