--Golovkin's return to HBO resulted in another destructive, eye-catching sort of win over Daniel Geale this past Saturday, but there just weren't that many eyes to catch. According to Jake Donovan and Nielsen Media Research, the fight did an average of 758,000 viewers on HBO, cutting Golovkin's audience nearly in half from his last HBO appearance in November 2013.--

--Rafael said “Kovalev-Caparello averaged 990k viewers on @HBOboxing live airing, 8th-most viewed US fight in ’14. Peaked at 1.052M. Kovalev-Caparello slightly down from Kovalev-Agnew (1.006M) but that was main event, not undercard of HBO boxing broadcast.”--

    Cotto>Ward>Kovalev>Golovkin

Hmmm... yeah good point TS. Why on earth would team Golovkin want to unify at MW, get him the lineal title and the richest fight of his career?

    I mean ... that's just stupid.

    Rubio will beat Cotto
and Golovkin begging for that WBC belt not for Cotto, he always said he wants to unify the division, that's why he is fighting Rubio so he can ensure he will be next in the line for WBC belt

The relatively low viewership for Golovkin - Geale may be part of the reason we're getting Soliman - Taylor in the US IMO. There's a build towards the unification, but also an understanding that GGG needs to fight someone known to US audiences (Geale fought in the US just once - and lost to Barker).

Jermaine wins - all good, Soliman wins, he's beaten a name fighter (albeit a shot to hell one). Either way, I've a feeling there will be a unification bout on the cards next year.

Damn, but I'm a sucker for positive thinking.

I wouldn't call Golovkin a star just yet. He needs that one signature win to break him out from simply being another good champion. Much like Hopkins prior to the Tito win, he was also regarded as the top middleweight but was pretty much under appreciated and over looked by many boxing fans.

This is why Golovkin needs Cotto more than Cotto needs him. The fans have been waiting for Golovkin to step up and face a proven top fighter and after Cotto beating Martinez, Cotto is the clear first choice for that signature win. Big name with little risk.
