Kinda off topic , but the reason why i'm posting this here is because i wanted to know your opinion on Pudzianowski in mma. Anyway here's a recap , in other words , here's how i ended up posting this thread...lol.., a few hours ago i was watching a video of Arnold in commando , (this one) [yt]xpugzBuCbGs[/yt] And for some odd reason , that triggered a thing in my mind...So i did a search for total recall , found this... [yt]kZbPTwQLZoo[/yt] then , youtube's automatic vid suggestion led me to this vid [yt]MSCBwczZ2gY[/yt] (i just had to click on it , out of extreme curiosity) Continuing....then , to my right , i had two other vids...One was titled " Natural Bodybuilding - No need for steroids!" [yt]rPXHhMcRFCg[/yt] (again , i was curious to see the result without steroids , so i just had to click on it)... and another vid titled: "Coleman Vs Schwarzenegger" [yt]1k0cYPjlz6U[/yt] Cotinuing.... hs i was watching the coleman vs arnold vid , i had the reflex to also read some of the comments...such as " Scarwney? hahahaha u r funny! Arnie is 6'2" that colmena guy is 5'10" of course he's gonna look bigger" & "Yep, even the judges have decided that bloated bellys are out now.....fanatstic comparison at the end. 1st time i've seen it done side by side like that.....the thing is even Ronnie doesn't look like that now.....times change.....you pays yer money yer takes yer choice!!" or "Ronnie was to freaky looking, while Arnold was proportionately perfect. I remember watching some of those contest when I was a kid, and I think that proportion actually had some bearing in the judging".... Anyway.... I ended up on a vid titled "Ronnie Coleman vs Jay Cutler 2001" [yt]fuN7yzSgclY[/yt] and i was thinking to myself , "damn! these guys are ****ing freaks!...what are the side effects ?" (speaking of steroids)...Then i was trying to imagine guys like these participating in mma...would it be a good or bad idea ? would they end up being succesful ? how do you submit a guy that big ?... Then i remembered Bob Sapp vs Nogueira...afterall , Sapp is a 360 lbs monster and nog still managed to force a submission on his big arms [yt]bm9jvunxX3U[/yt] (that gladiator music again! ) ... So yeah , it's apparently possible. + the likes of Jay & ronnie aren't as agile... But then i was trying to find an equivalent...a guy who was just as strong if not way stronger , with better stamina and agility...and the name "Mariusz Pudzianowski" poped in my mind... as agile as a Broke Lesnar only stronger & more endurant. I thought , Mariusz is probably a has been now , it's been almost 3 years since he last dominated the "world's strongest man" competition... Anyway , i then took the initiative to visit his wiki page and apparently not... "Pudzianowski regained his title in 2007, winning with one event to spare (which he had also done in 2003 and 2005). He joins Jón Páll Sigmarsson and Magnús Ver Magnússon as the only four-time winners. In the WSM 2007 competition he said that his target is to win once more to become the only person to win the event 5 times." He's probably one of the best ever... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariusz_Pudzianowski (if you're still reading this thread...here's my question lol ) Do you guys think that a guy like that , (with his incredible stamina , flexibility , strength ) would beat Kimbo ? (just kidding).... But do you guys think he'd be a major problem even for the likes of Nogueira or Barnett etc...With his strength alone , and incredible endurance , he would just "lay and pray" and **** everyone's gameplan...Imagine a guy this strong with a perfect submission defense ? he'd be a ****ing nightmare!
He may be crazy strong but whats his chin like? What's his conditioning like in MMA? Can he get past the fact that in MMA technique can overcome strength? Is he strong enough to handle Fedor's arm bars and other sub attempts? Can he eat a Cro Kick?
Mariusz is far from a has been, the guy is a ****ing freak. He can't compete with IFSA guys like Zydrunas Savickas or Mikhail Koklyaev in absolute strength, but when it comes to carrying heavy **** quickly he's the best in the world. With some training I'm sure he would do fine for himself, just like about any top level athlete, but saying he would be elite is always pissing in the wind because there are a lot of intangibles like heart and chin that don't get sorted out until you are in the ring. Perhaps most of note, is that he is a black belt in Kyokushin karate (GSP and Bas Rutten, and K-1 guys like Andy Hug, Filho, Feitosa) and actively competed as an amatuer boxer for 7 years before he went to prison and did well enough there to earn notoriety for himself before doing strongman. He still trains both, so suffice to say he can throw punches, kicks, and knees.
Id take his pro boxing ledger with a pinch of salt. Alledgedly he was a Professional boxer. But he has no record on Boxrec.
I don't care who you are, if you were walking down a dark alley and Coleman + Cutler, in that kind of shape, came up to you...you'd be terrified.
I saw an interview with Mariusz about his boxing career, he said he was an amateur boxer but quit because he didn't like getting punched in the face. I don't know where this professional boxer myth came from. Anyway as for the question, no it would be a bad idea. He would be busted for roids, a titanic roid ****** like that wouldn't get away with it for too long in such a heavily tested sport of MMA.
I never said he was a pro boxer, I said he was an amateur. I don't know where anyone said he was a pro?
Have you ever watched any form of Japanese MMA? Tested organizations are unique to America. And drug testing is unequal to drug free.
"Apart from WSM Mariusz is also known for practicing martial arts (he is a fourth degree black belt in Kyokushin karate). Moreover he was a professional boxer for 7 years before he started to compete in strongman competitions." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariusz_Pudzianowski
Japan has ultimate fighting too? Interesting. Can't imagine it would be too good, lots of kung fu nonsense, I suspect.
You're citing a source that can be edited by anyone, there isn't much veracity to what wikipedia says, especially if it has no citations from proper authorized sources. As Mariusz stated himself in a interview, he only fought amateur, never pro. Until I see a legitimate source slaiming he said otherwise, I'll take his word.
Quite a series of links there. lol In short - I doubt we would ever see a guy with such superior strength that is also accompanied by perfect submission defenses - for the simple fact that most overly muscled guys to often rely on that attribute alone - preferring to outmuscle everyone - rather than focusing on actual techniques. In layman's terms, they don't have to know five escapes from the mount - because they are used to pressing everyone right off the top position. We saw a bit of that in play during the Kimbo Slice fight this weekend. Kimbo is used to throwing people around so he never had a need to use real technique. I was actually impressed when he performed that one sweep. Beyond that, he was found lacking in several areas.
Wikpedia isn't a vital source.... its just some facts that probably 80% are true. Mariusz was a Am Boxer, and thats it. He said he took up Strongman competitions becouse he didnt like getting hit. He has never turned pro.
