Doesn't seem that way, does it? Even if Haymon is the one really pushing this mismatches for guys like Wilder and Danny Garcia, he as the promoter has the right to NOT promote them.
Oscar can only do so much. The fact that he has allowed his Cash cow Canelo take on Trout, Angulo, Mayweather and Lara back to back shows us he will match the best vs the best.
The only reason those fight took place was because Canelo demanded them not because Oscar wanted them. People talk about these promoters/managers putting on easy fights Canelo has shown you its really on the fighters they can say who they want to fight there just content fighting on a low level for checks.
The Salka fight had been set, at least verbally during the Schaeffer regime. GBP made a decision to honor all the commitments made by Schaeffer, verbal and otherwise. This per Don Chargin. Which honestly was good business and understandable. Oscar not to blame, unless people really expect him to break commitments. Which is unreasonable. Will see how things pan out going forward.
Oscar can't force his fighters to grow some balls like Canelo and Mares. If fighters had the balls these two Golden Boy fighters had boxing would be a lot richer.
GBP has put on some good cards. The past weekend was terrible, but next weekend's card is a quality card. Not every show is going to be top notch.
This is the most pathetically true statement about the sport. The fighters have managers and promoters blabbing about it being a business and "protecting the franchise". Canelo, with all the hype and fame he has already could still be fighting blown up Welters for big checks. His resume is better than Gary Russells will ever be. Good post man.
He wouldn't of even made the porter brook fight if the ibf didn't demand it porter would be having another Diaz fight or Carson jones maybe if he can make 140 come saturday
