Why else would they have made him come down to a weight he hadn't been at in years? Use your head FFS. It is a fact that Porter DID NOT WANT THE CATCHWEIGHT, but it was the only way he'd get the fight.

You're another guy who doesn't get that 3 pounds is SIX glasses of water..when you are in tip top shape, all 3 of those pounds are water weight... you at least get that, don't you?? And you also know that you can't just drink the water after weigh in and be good as gold next day... it can take more than 24 hours to rebalance the body. Porter handled it well, but don't try to tell me they didn't try to drain him.

 

A weight-drained fighter who has lots of talent can beat a healthy fighter with little talent. That's what happened in this fight.

Catch-weights matter. If they didn't matter, cash-cows wouldn't force their opponents to drain themselves.

 

quit it w the the myth that brook schooled porter, it was a close fight w porter employing clinch tactics all night long. clinches are a valuable strategy here and there and when you get hurt, but to use it all night long a la wlad/broner/mayweather is disgraceful. i put just as much blame on porter for not having an answer and lunging into the clinches all night, either way it was still close and i would give porter a 50-50 chance in a rematch.

To me it is very obvious that you have never competed.

When competitors are almost equal, 'small' advantages when you can get them matter a lot (such as having to drop a couple of pounds less than your competitor). These 'small' advantages mean a lot a the highest level and having multiple 'small' advantages really adds up.

You consider two cyclists racing, same age, same equipment. Both practice ride 300 miles a week. One has perfected every little detail, posture, aerodynamics etc etc. One hasn't. Which one would you bet on?
