I’m shocked that everyone would pick Johnson. But to be fair I know little of pre30s fighters other then what I’ve learned on this site in the last year. I can only go by film from that era as I have no trust in writers whom imo embellish many of those fighters at the time (or maybe for the time they deserved the accolades). The film quality is usually poor and doesn’t give an accurate portrayal of the fighters either. But you can see the styles and I don’t think that stylistically Johnson’s game would translate. He was def athletic enough that isn’t the problem but I feel he would have to adjust his game come Frazier’s time. Can’t see many refs allowing that much clintching. But what do I know def want some reading material on Jeffries Johnson and Dempsey that might give me an accurate description of the times
