But even against monster hitters like Tua, at least Lennox threw combinations. And he mixed it up - his didn't always fight defensively. Occasionally he unleashed cans of whoop ass.
People need to fall back on the Wlad's performance ..Has anyone ever considered what was going through Thompsons mind ? Im sure everyone picked him to lose but if your hungry and this is your first title shot you do everything you can to win ..Its always the fights that your suppose to win win that always sneak up and bite you . Its easy to criticise a man's performmance because he didn't do what people expected himm to do but,but not once has anyone considered the challengers mentality ! You never know when the next big star will rise so I won't be so quick to judge a fighter if he doesn't end up knocking out everyman that steps in the ring with them !
Thompson's mentality was to make it through 12 rounds. There was basically no forepower coming back in Wlad's direction so there was no need to be cautious, especially considering Thompson's lack of power.
I'm not a Wlad hater but we'll never see Wlad engaged in a battle like Bowe-Golota. That's what the people like.
Exactly. The 80's crowd is out in full force today. Tyson ruled a weak division, so did Larry Holmes.
I'm tired of watching Wlad during the afternoon, in Germany with that hideous white ring. The crowd is dead silent the whole fight unless something big happens. The first 10 rounds of that fight were boring as hell. Wlad looked very awkward throwing punches, especially that left hook which at times looked completely ridiculous.
BOTH! Thompson didn't throw MANY punches (I didn't say he didn't throw ANY) and what he did throw landed. But none of those landed shots were powerful enough to make Wlad need to fight defensively.
I think his mentality changed once he tasetd that right ..Im sure he was all gung ho at first but once he tasted Wlad's power he went into caution mode ..
For a potentially extrordinary heavyweight , Wladimir looked mediocre. He allowed a stone cold dead man , waving the white flag in those late rounds to still land the occasional right jab and straight left hands crept in too.. When a dominant champ has a man like that all but surrendering he gets him outa there double quick.. In a Championship fight in the eighties Larry Holmes faced a clever but overmatched heavyweight named Lorenzo Zanon in Las Vegas . Larry jabbed and pawed his was around Zanon , stepped on the gas once and dropped him, when he came back going for broke looking defeated, Larry saw the chance steped it up and just immediately knocked him out.. No messing around.. Like champs do.. Mediocre is not good enough when you are claiming to be numero uno... Wladimir is an amazing athlete but if he wants to be true to his loyal public , he has to start providing everyone with some honest answers.. Is he a committed champ, ie: Is he an entertainer..? Boxing is entertainment, he didn't entertain me or strike me with wonder and awe... Time he gave us an awestruck dominant showing.. preferably against Haye or Povetkin..
