I tried to do Donaire's left check hook...

check hook is stepping into an opponent who is in the process of throwing the opposite hand and hooking before they get to you


counter hook is when someone throws a hook and it either grazes or lands lightly and fighter throws a hook against the same side as was hooked against him


Check hook is an unbelievably hard punch to land

if your opponent doesn't hit the ring post is it still a check hook?

 

That was just a normal counter left hook, the way Donaire throws his left hook is the way it is SUPPOSED to be thrown. Amateurs are taught to punch from the hips with torque from day one.

 

If you can't tell the difference between a standard counter and a check hook then I hate to say it but ' you don't know sheeeeit about boxing' . .

They're not this mythical punch that people make out Off the top of my head - Malinaggi caught Hatton with a couple and James Degale caught Paule Smith with a beauty in their fight iirc
