Check hook is a half hook or a semi-hook if you want. It is not a "full" hook, that is thrown at a wider arc. It is still a hook with some idiot just making it sound more exotic.

It is like "rook to e8, check!"

I don't know why people keep referring to it as a check hook.

look at the angle of floyds arm as it lands (in between a hook and an uppercut), same shape as a check/tick sign ;)

That's got nothing to do with it. That's a hookercut in between a hook & uppercut. The only reason it's like that is because he had to shorten it up.

What makes the check hook different from any other hook, is the movement of the legs of the boxer.
The key is to move away once landing the hook to get out of position from being hit by any counter and if done like seen with floyd, it is classified as a check hook.
    Any other hooks...watch cotto box

MOst people here learn that expression after Floyd-Hatton (i did).

If DOnair's hit was a check hook then i didn't understand what a check hook was first...

Look at Floyd's left foot movement as he throws that hook. No hips! He knocked Ricky down with an arm punch. Damn, Floyd a G.
