Well it finally see's some of you guys are starting to see what i saw years ago.... this guy is exciting, has the correct attitude, works hard and is willing to do whatever it takes... PW put on a great performance last night and is finally starting to get some good recognition.. and i dont want anyone taking away from winky because winky clearly still looked fresh... still had his speed, still had accuarcy, paul was just an extremely difficult matchup.... now! what im seeing on the forum im not sure if im liking tho... people are to far and in between about how they feel about paul williams.. not people want to see them against 200 pounders and others are still claiming he's not the goods.... either way im happy for the kid.... paul will continue to stack victories and do what he has to do... Can he still go to 147? absolutely... he forced himself to eat junk food to make weight How will he fair against pavlik aa (and possibly even 168'ers as i suggested forever ago)... only time will tell... i still think due to size guys that large will be a big challenge but the only thing that will make the fights tricky is pw's chin... if he can take the punches.. he should be able to fight guys in the 160 + 168 range with ease.... but im glad some of you guys are starting to see the light... GO PAUL!
This is his best win by far, I give everyone credit for beating Winky Wright and he probably is the goods, but he isn't king **** just yet.
The guy is absurdly good. I'd like to see him fight at 147 again just to show that NO ONE in any of his chosen weight classes (147-168?) can beat him. What a statement that would be...not since Henry Armstrong would someone have been able to fight, consistently, at such a broad range of weight classes and be king of them all.
walk with me, i think it needs to be said that Wright hasn't proved that he is anything like as good as i think you think he is. But. That was a great win. And he looked great getting it. Great. I think he will struggle at 160, Abraham is going to ruin him, and it it worried me that Wright looked stronger in the clinches. I think he'd be made at 154. But 160 is where I would like to see him because that is where the most exciting fights are. I think he's got the balls for it. What did he weigh in the ring, by the way, anyone know?
yeah those are idiots talking about he can fight wlad and still come back to fight cotto but then when he loses theyre going to be the first to say how over rated he is.. just stick to my threads... i been a fan since day 1
im very confident that if winky got in the ring with 95% of the fighters between 154-160 he would pull away with a win
i bet you were doing backflips watching this fight. i never thought williams couldnt do it but i didnt see it being as one sided as it was.
I'm becoming a believer. It's not the 1000 punches and crazy angles, and his freakish size that convinced me, he always had that. Some of the more subtle defensive moves he's showng are leading me to think a Quintana won't happen so easily against another counterpuncher. In that respect he's improved. I suppose its better to recognise late than never. I think he could do well at any of these weights, I think Pavlik is probably the worst matchup for him because Pavlik is very long armed also, and punches with a lot more authority than Williams is used to. He would probably be better served against Abraham where he only needs to deal with sporadic bursts.
What a lot of you probably have not noticed but i have .... because when i watch pw's fights i try to analyze them alot is that ... each and every fight he shows some much improvement and variety from fight to fight he changes his style & game plan... if you watch the last 2 rounds of the winky fight and dont think he can crack.... your insane.. pw was trying to take winky's head off and got him good a couple times .. never staggered tho... but the point is that... i (as the biggest pw fan on here) dont think we have seen pw's roof yet... he looks better and better every fight
Hate to burst your bubble, but Carlos Quintana already beat him. There needs to be a rubber match between the two since they are 1-1 against each other. All that said, a good win over a 37 yr old who hadn't fought in 21 months. This isn't exactly a prime fighter that we are talking about.
I'd have Pavlik as a favourite over Williams, but i liked Williams' lateral movement in this fight. Get that right, combined with the angles on the punches, and i'd have to say Williams is in with a shout.
smh @ wanting to see a rematch with quintana how about that can be the undercard...pacman can be the headliner fighting Rustico Torrecampo
