Mormeck isn't glass chinned. You could probably make a case for Haye being glass chinned, but it'd be premature.

In several years, Haye may be a monster at heavyweight. Let's not forget weight draining has caused fighters to be chiny i the past, and very few fightrs struggle to make weight more than Haye does at cruiser. When he is a fully grown, experianced heavyweight, his chin may not be a factor.

Haye has the power to knock Marciano into next week too. As Marciano isn't great defensively, I wouldn't write-off an upset win. I'd pick Marciano but a Haye win is not something to be laughed at.

 

Rocky Mariciano lose to Joe or Roy? No way! Jones in his prime would probably own the first few rounds like Archie Moore did, but Rocky would lay him out before the final bell. Joe Calzaghe...he has an overwhelming workrate that smothers opponents, but there are some fighters that it would matter and Rocky is one. Joe would be lucky to go six rounds with The Rock.

Nope, He is pretty Anti Marciano though.

On the flip side, he is a Dempsey nut Hugger, and seems to "Forget" that Dempsey failed to defend against Wills and his nearly 5 year break of the 7 year rein(Once even comparing the longest reins of Champions, Louis, Ali, Holmes and Dempsey), But relly Dempsey got such a long rein for sitting on his butt.

 

Yeah he is far from being unbiased when he writes about Marciano, that much is obvious.

 

Shame there are so many pure Marciano haters, there is nothing else to call them, the guy fought all of his #1 contenders except for 1 #2, he beat everyone he faced and his opponents beat everyone else, he fought in supreme condition, showed heart,2 fisted power,dedication and ability and will and the one of the best recup abilty ever, I wonder is it about him that makes him hated, because his is the most underated on this site and Ali and Holmes have wings

 

Because he faced and defeated the best opposition of his era, gave rematches where they were appropriate, clearly and uncontroversially defeated every man he ever faced, defended the championship again and again against legitimate challengers and established his dominance, and retired without ever losing a professional fight. No other champion can boast all of those things- very few can even boast any given two or three of them.

See the reasons listed above, and compare the standards Holmes, Tyson and Dempsey set in their own careers. They don't stack up.

Dempsey- He failed completely to face the clear-cut #1 challenger of his era, had a three-year lay-off during his title reign, didn't have particularly high-quality title defenses, didn't always give appropriate rematches to fully establish his superiority (see Firpo and Sharkey), doesn't have as strong a winning resume (in my opinion) and has a spottier record.

Tyson- What Tyson did during his period of dominance from the end of 1986 through 1989 was similar to what Rocky did in '51-55, in that he cleary and uncontroversially defeated nearly all of the other top heavyweights of the time and established his dominance over them while maintaining an undefeated record of his own (though he only lasted to 37-0 and had only about 3 years at/near the top before he toppled, and I don't feel- nor do most boxing fans- that anyone he beat ranks as high as a Walcott or Charles), but his subsequent brutal loss at 23 to Buster Douglas and disappearance from the championship level, leading to him losing again and again in potential career-defining fights, sometimes disgracefully like in the Holyfield rematch, puts him well in the rear-view mirror compared with Marciano.

Holmes- Holmes, of course, has a large quantity/longevity advantage on Marciano, but he failed to defeat several of the highest-ranking challengers of the era while fighting inferior opposition instead, failed to give rematches in instances where they would have been very well-merited (Norton, Witherspoon, Williams), and all-around had a much lower consistent quality of opposition in his title reign in comparison with Marciano's.

And if we're speaking in terms of the head-to-head-at-each-man's-best criterion, I would give Marciano at leastclose-to-even odds with any one of these guys.

He's been a fixture in my #4 spot for quite some time. I could see myself being persuaded to put him anywhere from about 3-6, though.
