I understand why Mayweather didnt fight Margarito after struggles with Castillio.

Floyd had made a career at welter of bringing up 135 and 140 pounders.

It was almost 2 years. When Floyd finally came out of hiding the IRS was about to foreclose on his house because he didn't have the money to pay his property taxes.

The thing that I've noticed when it comes to both Mayweather and Pacquiao is that people think they need to fight bigger guys to lose but I think unless they go all the way up to MW it takes a small guy who can match them for speed to beat them. People talk about Margarito but in reality he'd be way to slow, just look at some of their harder fights, Hatton, Marquez, judah, morales, those were smaller guys than who they are fighting now and gave them the most problems.

Similar styles don't mean similar level Castillo is a better fighter than Margarito he also spent the majority of his career as a training partner to ATG mexican Chavez sr. Mayweather didn't fight Margarito because he lost directly after calling him out also lost directly after getting his only notable win vs Cotto.

Ellerbe: "Floyd, the De la Hoya rematch clause has expired! It's safe to end your two year "retirement". You can come out of hiding now."

Floyd: "But what about Tony Margarito? Isn't he still the beast of the welterweight division???!!!

Ellerbe: No, baby, don't worry. Mosley and Naz took care of him. You won't have to fight him no more."

Floyd: "Thank God. The IRS is about to foreclose on that tax lien on my house. I'm almost living in a cardboard box off the strip waiting for this division to cool off. I think I'll bring up Marquez from 135 for my first fight back."

Listen Mayweather has beaten far better opposition than castillio, its just that castilios style gave him so much trouble. Margarito is a far better version of castillio, styles makes fights.

Castillo in his prime is such an underrated fighter I don't think even a bigger, stronger fighter like Margarito was no where near his level. While at 135 Castillo hit like a welter, could box well at long range when he wanted, and as Chavez Sr's principal ex-sparring partner some of that greatness rubbed off. Margarito was a beast, but never used intelligent pressure like Castillo could. He'd walk thru Floyd's best powershots, that's fo sho and at some point break thru Floyds defense forcing him to fight. If Margarito fought more like Castillo or Maidana he'd be a serious, serious threat to all 147-154ers and potential to be a great.

All I can remember is that when both Floyd and Marg met at dinner / fan meet Floyd practically shite himself.

It was so awkward and I don't even think Marg was talking **** , he was just so much bigger and Floyd was like ' what this is a real 147 fighter'.

Jlc and Margo fight nothing a like. If you can't see that then you should find a new sport. Not only that Jlc was light years better and complete than Margo anyone who argues otherwise is a hater or knows nothing about the sport or both.:deal

Ducked Zoo to face the man who beat him?!! Dont understand that logic, Floyd faced the undefeated Hatton. Prior to the Hatton fight Zoo was inactive for about 18 months so how could Floyd duck him?

Was Floyd ducking Zoo when he moved upto 135 to face the number 1 man in the division in Castillio? Dont understand your logic.

If being the key word there. The fact is Margerito was no where near the level of Castillo, he didnt apply smart pressure he just walked forward in straight lines using his iron beard to absorb punishment. No chance he beats Floyd, Floyd is far too superior in every department. People think he was a giant, but in reality he was easily dealt with by Shane. Speed, power and reflexes of an ageing Mosley left Margerito in limbo yet people think he walks through the best fighter of this generation. Based on what? His win over Cintron or his questionable win over Cotto.

Good post overall tho. So many people on here hate Floyd so much they refuse to credit just how good Castillo was. A true great mexican badass.

The man who beat Tszyu? You mean Vince Phillips??? Floyd ducked him too. Or do you mean the great white hypejob B level fighter that Floyd brought up from 140, Rickey Hatton alias Arturo Gatti II?

"The Undefeated Hatton" "The Undefeated Hatton" was a hypejob who got beat by Luis Collazo in Boston before Floyd fought him.
