I wouldn't say boycott their fights but I would suggest people look outside of the "normal" boxing media. Sites like Asianboxing.info are doing an amazing job at covering a lot of fighters that don't get a look in elsewhere. They re talking very excitedly about the next generation of fighters form Japan, Thailand and the Philippines and they are seriously excited about a lot of guys that don't get any press in the west.

It's due to those guys that I've heard of Kosei Tanaka, Keita Obara, Ryo Matsumoto, Shingo Wake, Stamp Kiatniwat, Eaktawan Mor Krunthepthonburi, Albert Pagara and Mark Magsayo.

The US boxing media and big mainstream sites probably have bigger bills to pay so need to talk about what they know will get them hits but it's great to see some sites out there talking about the guys who don't get much coverage. If you can understand Spanish Notifight is BRILLIANT for Mexican news, Boxingnews.jp is great for Japanese news.

Sadly until WE the fans start talking more about the other guys the media won't take note. It's why I love the topics that CST80 has been doing. Shame some of them have been so ignored but it's still great to see someone giving those unknown guys some time.

Totally agree with this, the quality of opponents and fights of both as seriously tailed off. Time to say cheery bye and we can get on with watching fighters who want to test themselves.

At first I was like, why is fonzie praising Marquez for fighting guys like Alvarado, Fedchenko, and Ramos? Pac and May have both been fighting better opposition than that in the last couple years. But then I got that you meant both Cotto and Marquez had fought May and Pac.

I don't know what you are waiting for. The new guys are already here. Donaire, Rigondeaux, Ward, Alvarez, Crawford, R. Gonzalez, GGG, D. Garcia, M. Garcia, Kovalev. You don't need to wait until Pac and May retire to watch these guys.

You dont get it. hes saying to be THE guys! they wont untill Pac and Mayweather are gone. casuals need somebody else and need to enjoy watching the biggest boxing events. the last PPV wasnt very good at all and the main event stunk with Mayweather-maidana 2. so when the casuals actually watch 1 or 2 fights a year they got to see thsat?? makes them not want to watch boxing anymore. but if GGG was the man and they got to see that more casuals would start watching alot more again.

Yes the youngsters are here but there not HERE if you know what I mean

How has Garcia proven to been a flop?? he had a close fight and you call the man a flop after beating Khan and Matthysse. dont agree at all

Thurman is a beast and fighters have ducked him! dude has been hurt but is now good and is trying to fight somebody before the end of the year. Looks like he will pound Alexander out actually

PPL just scared to fight GGG, what do you want the man to do? looks like 2015 is finally gonna be his shot. do you know how long Martinez was ducking GGG???

    Yeah. Onwards the revolution!:happy:happy

Nah. I was perhaps lucky enough to return to the sport (beyond a casual nature) only in about 2012, so I missed out on a lot of the superstar hysteria around Floyd and Pac, but what I've seen since just makes me smh.

There is so much emerging talent, and boxing is more global and has a larger talent pool than ever, yet there's this weird obsession with two past prime 'superstars' lingering over the entire sport like a curse.

Either fight or f#ck off into oblivion ffs. I ain't blaming one or the other and TBH don't give a s#it.

Not only that, but this cancer of hero worship has reshaped the way boxing is discussed in (IMO) an entirely negative way. Obsessed fans beget obsessed rivals ad nauseam, and before you know it, intelligent boxing discussion is replaced with mountains of drivel.

Let us take this noble sport back!

Let us fight this corrupting evil with our wallets!

Let us make this sweet science our own once more!

For it is us, the mighty consumer, and US alone who can make this terrible WRONG RIGHT ONCE MORE!

For BOXING! FOR FREEDOM! THE TIME to ACT IS HERE!

They won't be THE guys until they show the world how good they are and do the kind of things that Manny and May did. Donaire took a shot at it when he challenged Rigondeaux, but then he lost, his career stalled out, and Rigondeaux continues to tread water or even regress a little bit taking no risks. Donaire needs to avenge that loss if he's going to be THE man.

GGG needed to take the mantle off of Sergio, and Sergio giving the title shot to Cotto was a dick move that prevented a legitimate passing of the torch. There aren't really a lot of guys left at middle who GGG can fight and get big respect from, so unless he wants to step up to Froch or Ward at super middle, he's going to have to take the long way to fame by cleaning up and reigning over his division for a number of defenses.

Ward just needs to start fighting again. Stop sueing his promoter and get back in the ring. He already cleaned out super middle so he needs to move up to light heavy where Kovalev, Hopkins, Stevenson, and now Beterbiev are waiting.

Alvarez could have been THE man, but he lost to Mayweather.

Kovalev is still too new and needs to beat Hopkins and Stevenson. Then if he moves up to cruiser or heavy and makes good he'll be THE man.

Crawford is too new to be the man. He needs to make a few more big fights and move up in weight. Ditto for the Gonzalez'.

You can't be THE MAN until you've done as much to prove yourself as THE MEN before you. So what are these guys waiting for? Manny Pacquiao was a champion at twenty. He'd fought Barrera, Morales, and Marquez by the time he was twenty-six. What are they waiting for? I think they are waiting for Manny and Floyd to retire so they can be THE man. Everyone wants to be the man and nobody wants to work for it, just like those lazy bums in the heavyweight division. Nobody wants to fight old man Wlad, and nobody wants to fight another contender because they might lose. Nobody dares to be great any more. That's why they aren't THE MAN.
