Something like what's thrown at 3.17 below: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZfV_PlyHc4&feature=player_embedded[/ame] I know it's kind of a ridiculous punch but I want to learn it because it would be so unexpected and partly because it's a fun punch. Finding it hard to get any power at the moment. Any tips, wise members? :smoke
Dang, i dont know but i do have to say gamboa is interesting to watch. I kno you have to pivot your left foot?
It's one hell of a punch isn't it! :bbb I dunno about the lead foot, but I plan to wheel my back foot around and get out like Gamboa does above.
http://tinyurl.com/6e8soq4 learn how to throw it in the gym, heres a free link and code for my new app WMHP9PPAR979 hope you download it and that its useful
You'll never get any power on it, it's a jab. A lot of folks call it a corkscrew punch, it's more of an underhanded jab that starts low than an uppercut. The intent is just top catch the guy off guard, give him something extra to think about, etc. Depoending on his reaction or if it lands, you can follow it up with powershots.
it's an upjab (the fist is thrown from underneath the target, in a straight line, with the palm facing up. it goes through the target instead of rotating like an uppercut)... but the guy in the video leads with his head when he slips, which his head goes outside of his base and he falls out of position. it might look slick, but really he's off balance and sloppy. if his feet were in position, and he slipped his head to the left AND kept it inside his base he would've had the opportunity to throw a right after the upjab, or upjab-slip to the right-right uppercut-left hook, etc, etc, etc.
I disagree with this, the left uppercut can be a very dangerous and powerful shot if thrown correctly. Ricardo Lopez is the best example i can think of when it comes to monstrous left uppercuts. He knocked out/hurt quite a few fighters with the punch. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQfc58XeQXQ[/ame]
What Gamboa threw there was not a left uppercut. It was a co0rkscrew, upperjab, or whatever. And yeah, Finito and Morales BOTH have killer left uppercuts.
It looks fun but a dangerous punch. Gamboa is stretching, arms fully extended whist punching upwards whilst pivoting. Going to leave you dangerously exposed in my opinion if you try it as a lead, in fact can you call it a lead as it will be hard to regain your balance before you can follow it up with anything. I would call it more of a counter as it's thrown when Rojas is about to move in, hence the pivot to get out of the way. Second I would agree with KillSomething in that its an upwards jab, going to be really difficult to get any power on it, the harder you try, the more you will prob leave yourself open. Unless you have the athletic reflexes of Gamboa, I know I don't!
its a screw shot, easy punch to throw in a combination, can get a lot of power on it too when you plant your feet
A lot of mexican fighters have good left uppercuts. JMM, Margarito, Barrera, Arce. Maybe it's because they have good left hooks to the body, so they develope the left uppercut to keep their opponent guessing, so when they see the lead hand drop down like that they're never sure if it's coming to the liver or straight up the middle to the head.
