Beat darchinyan if the fight is made at 115. I said all along that i couldn't see what the fuss was about w/ mijares. He had 2 split decisions over an old warrior and a stark underacheiver, but montiel is a big, strong, hard punching, and crafty legit 115 pounder. Hell, he even had a VERY close decision loss to johnny gonzalez at 118 lbs. The guy is clearly the best superfly in the world. Save this post. If montiel decides to campaign at 118 then we'll not see him fight vic, but i think the money in this fight and glory of having all 4 belts @ 1 time will give nando the itch to have 1 last fight at 115 before conquering the bantams.
Mijares was NOT overrated. Vic clearly has come on a lot since the Kirilov fight and this one. He fought a perfect fight and did as he said. Mijares beat Munoz very well, and his win over Arce was very dominant. Arce is still being talked about as having big fights in his future, so he's clearly not completely battleworn, i.e Gatti-style. I would've thought Montiel would spark Vic out within five rounds, but who knows now? Vic will want to surprise us all again. He should try and avenge the Donaire loss first though, I think that would prove whether he has the goods to become a truly great fighter. He's in the Margarito mould at the moment. Beat someone he wasn't supposed to beat but hasn't done a whole lot else (though the Kirilov win was very good too)
Stupid, stupid post. If you would of watched the Navarro and Munoz fights, instead of getting all your information of Boxrec, you would of known he won at least 9 rounds in both fights, and the splits were ridiculous.
I agree that Montiel have the edge. Montiel got a hell of a chin, vicious punch. Vic and Montiel can box despite vic's brawling ways. Would be a tough fight but Montiel definitely the more complete of the two.
