He threw more punches, landed more punches, and generally took the fight to Tarver, instead of picking him off coming in as he did in the first fight. He also was able to dodge a **** load of punches, instead of catching them on his gloves, which can be alot more dangerous. He generally seemed like he wanted to get Tarver out of there and was disappointed when he couldnt. Unlike other fighters that would have been like "wtf are you talking about, I fought great, im the best ever, you jus hatin, I'd like to thank uncle boosy, my cousin elroy, lil tootoo" Instead it looked like he wasnt satisfied with his performance and was willing to look at tape and improve what he was missing. Chad Dawson may never be amazing, he may never wow you with his abilities, but I think he has heart, is conscious of his faults, and is a solid B+ fighter that would be the favorite against any fighter from super middle to cruiser. We just need to find my mans some opponents. :yep
His ability to explode will carry him far. I just kept getting annoyed when he would disappear countless times during the fight. Im glad he knows he has stuff to work on, wants to get it fixed.
As a fan i was disappointed by his inconsistency, i thought he had improved on that but he let Tarver compete more than he should have. He has the skills to give any 168-175 pounders all sorts of problems, his mental discipline is his biggest problem right now. He needs to fight a few younger hungrier fighters now, just to give him a wake up call on activity and consistency.
Never saw the fight but heard it was closer than last time.I would like to see Hopkins take up his offer and take him on.
Wow! You like him vey much. I don't know more about Dawson after last night. He still has the same qualities, speed, superb combos, skills, etc. But his power doesn't seem to be impressive and he sleeps at least half of each round. He's a very good fighter but he's not elite yet. I'm not sure he will be ever. I think he boxes for his father. He may not have it in him.
In terms of my favorite active fighters he is probably 3rd or 4th on my list. When you watch him, you can see the potential, but you feel like there's something missing. Maybe it is him lacking power. However, I think he will do alright, not a very high IQ guy but has the right attitude about the sport. Maybe he can carry some power down to 168. I think he could certainly clean that out if anyone would fight him.
It was the same old Chad Dawson, looks great in cameos but then goes missing for 2 minutes. I don't think the HBO guys were too impressed either....
i was too, for the 1st 8 rounds.....untill he fell in love with his defense and stopped throwing punches but to his credit, he did show some great D, but ****... PUNCH *****, PUNCH!!: thats all i could think watching him, he's got all the right tools, but ****, he needs fix that, if he fixes that, he'll no doubt be elite, lets just hope he can
Floyd says that while he was retired Dawson was the best fighter p4p in the world. Anyway - yes, I was also impressed. I knew the real Tarver would show up this time (last time he basically came in a rehersing break from the Rocky movie - and the fight was a joke) and he did. It just still wasn't enough. Impressive from Dawson.
Dawson showed his toughness. I didn't mind what was going on that much because of the stupid little beef he has with Tarver. Dawson was trying to control everything and constantly make his point. Tarver isn't a complete sucker, so it didn't work the whole time. Dawson already proved he could completely tool this guy, if he was bored then **** it. Tarver wasn't gonna give it to him. I got what I expected.
