Benavidez, Khan, JCC jr are winning this 2010. Hmm, roach brewing his "Trainer of the Year" award again it seems. Not that i'm a fan of him, but the fighters in his stabel are coincidentally doing well.

Right.....the talent and foundation has always been there. but at some point those who are just "coasting" on talent and natural ability will become complacent and will degress rather than progress which is why Jr made a change.

And the results are what I thought he could have always shown....but under roach you see he's worked on a lot more than just strength and conditioning...he was fighting very intelligent in a very efficent style where he wasted little and got the most out of what he did exert.

Fighting intelligent within a gameplan is something Jr. did to great effect in the Vanda rematch, but he only did so because the 1st Vanda fight where he had trouble down the stretch dictated he fight smart in that rematch.
The fact Jr. was able to adjust and fight smart in that Vanda rematch showed me he has the skill and the ring intelligence to make adustments.
Whats needed to be done now and the reason Roach was hired was to help Chavez present and dictate during camp what the gameplan should be during the fight.

Up to this Duddy fight, there has'nt been a strong presence from anyone in Jrs. camp to point out with authority that this is what needs to be done come fight time.

Great physical conditioning and a solid gameplan of which includes fundamental skills is a prerequisite to reach the next level. Under a good trainer, certainly Chavez Jr. now has a better chance to reach that level.

The thing I notice the most is the amount of trust, faith and respect that Jr has for Roach and his new team. THat kind of synergy doesn't always happen at this level. If the chemistry is anything like it is with PAC and Roach we'll see a talented kid like Chavez Jr make his own legacy that not only his father can be proud of , but the rest also his entire country proud as well. Have a good corner is one thing but also having a tight bond can help with pushing someone like Chavez beyond what most expect.

If they work well together and have that chemistry, great.

I believe Chavez would do great with any trainer that would command his respect and demand diciplline.....whether that be Roach, Steward, Beristain, etc.....

I don't.....In order to get a fighter to do what is necessary to be at their VERY best the fighter has got to trust and believe in his trainer. JMM and Izzy have that relationship with Nacho.....Nard had that with bouie, Tito with Papa ect...

Jr from reports was lazy....hard to work with ect. Jr. may go through the motions but he's really not going above and beyond like he would if he had that chemistry.

The people who were training Jr. were hangers on from the tail end of his dad's career.

Jr. knew all of them but did'nt respect their authority knowing what he knew from the days of his own dad not putting out a full training camp in the latter part of his career.
I'll go as far as to say that Jr. in just witnessing his fathers prime years, already knew more about boxing than those that were training him........
.....because of this, Jr. was his own boss with that team, which is never a good thing to happen to a young up an comer.

......I'll repeat, any respected trainer is a huge step up in class from the team that Chavez Jr. was training under.

Anyone can command respect and run a tight ship but if there is no trust or belief the most dedicated trainer won't have the ability to reach his student. A lot has to do with making the right choice as to who is in your corner. It's possible that other trainers would have been able to take Chavez to anther level if Chavez had a good connection but again....that's not always the case. It seemed like a perfect "marriage" between Jr and Roach for obvious reasons which is refreshing. Too many times I've seen GREAT trainers get a talented kid and them not respond and tehy don't reach their full potential.

I'll repeat......having a good or respected trainer is not all that it takes to have a talent like Chavez Jr move on to the next level. It can help for sure but if there isn't a good relationship it's not gonna be any better than where he came from. Commanding respect and demanding ones attention is important but what if the one listening doesn't respect or even like the one speaking? With Jr and Roach....when Roach speaks....Jr is listening with his full attention.

    Still haven't watched the fight.

I think JCCjr is pretty underrated by the boxing community though.
