I was not impressed by Wladimir's perfomance versus Rahman

  1. Perhaps I am judging him harshly & should look at this from the perspective of Wlad doing what he had to do wo win; safelky; against a man that can upset with one punch. I guess in that respect he dominated.

Its just not a good indicator of his skill.... He sparring partners were probably tougher than Rahman.

Wlad is the king, and has great skills.. but he still has a bit more to prove. It sucks that the HW division is lacking so bad right now, I hope things really pick up in the next few years. I would like to see Haye do well, he is exciting and has a great mouth outside the ring.... I just really don't think his chin is gonna hold up against some of these big punchers , but I could be wrong.

“Boxing is entertainment, so to be successful a fighter must not only win but he must win in an exciting manner. He must throw punches with bad intentions.”

A quote from a legendary trainer, who created multiple champions at different divisions (including two hof hw champions). The experts here by now should recognize who said this quote.

If you lack the skills to exite, then just win. Nobody will blame you for doing otherwise.
But if you have that rare skills to win and excite, then you owe everyone including yourself to at least use that rare skill to win and try to excite.
Throwing the right twice in a fight you are clearly dominating with ease is not even close to trying to excite.

Comparing this fight with Lewis - Rahman 2 is really apples and oranges. Lewis desperately needed to prove something and make a big statement because the KO loss to Rahman was very embarassing. Sure, Wlad was once again overly cautious but better save than sorry, he really had nothing to gain from going all out besides silencing a few "critics" who will always diss him, no matter what he does, but a lot to lose.

The Rahman who was flattend in 4 rounds by Lewis also held both his arms straight out at the urging of his trainer. Think about it. That's basically asking to by KOed in a pro fight.

WALDO 0-1 with Sanders and Purrity, 1-1 with Brewster.

VITLAY 0-1 with Lewis, Maskaev and Pele Reid, and too scared to fight Rahman :smoke

Not a bad idea but I suspect he's still a little close to his prime for them to take that risk :yep

Maybe we'll see WALDO V Byrd 3, or VITLAY V Sanders again so instead of being 1-1 the Klits can go 2-1 up against him - as we all know, a win for VITLAY = a win for WALDO :smoke

I saw good things and bad things. GOOD: I like the fact Wladimir is looking bigger and stronger. Looks like he is training even harder than before. He had discipline and stuck to the plan which was working to perfection. BAD: Not versatility. 1-2, 1-2, 1-1-1-2 always to the head. That was about it. IT WORKED GREAT!! But that is because he was fighting a fat ass with no movement who depends on connecting a miracle punch to win a fight. You need head movement and good legs to move side to side when you are fighting Wladimir. Then he will be obligated to do something else. Like going to the body may be???? But Rahman's head was always there awaiting for his punches. SO no body punches were need. I really think with a few body punches combinations Wladimir would have finish that fight in no more than 2 rounds

It'll be stated over and over that David Haye was over hyped/not that good/too small etc.... They'll cry that Wlad is a coward because he didn't stand there like a statue and let Haye hit him clean... Basically come up with any nonsensical excuse and you can be sure it'll appear in some silly anti Wlad thread.

I agree. I'm bored with Wladimir being praised for beating up guys who turn up with defeat already in their hearts. The attitudes shown by Thompson and Rahman have been disgraceful. Get him in there with Haye pronto, and if he wins I'll acclaim him as a quality heavyweight, but just now I think he is pretty mediocre. Any good fighter his size, Vitali or Lewis, would have blitzed last night's version of Rahman in spectacular fashion within 3 rounds. It was obvious after a minute or so that Rahman was no more than a sitting duck, but because Wlad is so terrified that he'll get clipped on that china-chin if he opens up, we have to suffer 6 rounds of prodding his opponent to death with a jab first before he senses that his opponent is begging to be put out of misery.

For me Wlad is very good at what he does, he has worked with Steward on a game that is difficult to beat, very cautious, all concentrated on guard and jab and straight one-twos that don't leave his chin exposed at any time, but not only does that make for comatose boring fights, it would also be pretty easy for a certain type of heavyweight to defeat. Put Wlad in with prime Tyson and he wouldn't make it through one round. Even put him in with peak David Tua or David Haye just now, and I think he'd have big problems. Anyone with good head movement, good lateral movement, and quick, hard punching would be a nightmare for Wlad - which is why Thompson, Rahman and Ibragimov all failed so dismally.

I just don't understand people who say Wlad is a better fighter than Vitali. For me it's not even close. Wlad may have better fundamentals, a sharper technical side, but when it comes to the crunch Vitali would beat fighters that Wlad could not, and Vitali would crush Wlad if they ever fought.

I don't think Haye could beat Vitklit, but I'm starting to think he could pull off a shock v Wlad. If Haye lands one bomb, it's goodnight Wladimir, and with Haye's speed and spirit, it's very possible that this could happen.
