And the main reasons for that were.....

    Paul Truscott Vs John Simpson

Good fight, Truscott was unlucky that the fight was stopped due to damage under his eye. He must've been absolutely gutted losing his title like that in his hometown YET still showed terrific sportsmanship in lifting Simpson's arm aloft and couldnt praise him enough in the post fight interview, even going to as far to as to shout at the crowd to not boo him and give him respect.

    John Murray Vs Lee McAllister

In what imo could be an early contender for British FOTY both men went to war in a crack(er. During the fight there was a little "needle" between the two, fighting after the bell, a bit of playmanship by McAllister etc BUT at the end of the fight both sat with arms round each other and hadnt nothing but good things to say about each other. I was especially impressed with McAllister as he has a bit of a reputation for being gobby but came across as a great character.

Its easy to forget with the bad press boxing sometimes gets and the behaviour of some boxers the level of respect these lads have for each other.

What pleased me even more was that it was 4 good young British fighters involved in well matched fights.

I agree Murray and McAliister were both class acts in the post fight interview.

Im a massive Mcallister fan after last Saturday - he was sharp as **** in the first few rounds and really took me by surprise. He also came accross as a great character , hopefully he still goes on to do well.

Watched the Truscott fight, felt very sorry for him but the guy isn't gonna make it to the world stage without a knockout punch . very light hitting. good skills though.

Thaxton did very well behind the mic as well, it would have been easy for him to just agree with Barry Mac but he had his own opinions and wasnt afraid to voice them.

I am a fan of Hennessy shows, very good value for money, they always start at £30.

Have to agree, the fights this weekend were very good. It’s great to see ITV showing a sustained interest in domestic boxing and the Sky coverage was excellent as always. Next week Sky are in Stoke & I’ll be there. I look forward to our local boys putting on another good show.

The Lawton/Castle fights off isn't? Was really looking forward to that 1. Still a good bill though.

First I've heard if this is the case. I'll speak to me brother, as he knows Scott quite well. If I hear anything I'll keep you posted.

In his press interviews he always seemed to come over as something of a ****...all that 2 weight world champion bollocks, but as you said he came over really well on camera. Cracking ring walk music as well :yep

    Great Weekend for boxing fans.
Not so great for us!! haha.

    Thats boxing.
Murray was relentless and had a gameplan and effected it.

Lee was fighting at a much higher level than he ever has done.. was very confident going in, but i think maybe, maybe, when he felt Murray was going to be relentless all night he probably let his pride and bravado get in the way of our gameplan.
I think he's proved he belongs in the upper class of our domestic lightweights, and will improve on the back of that. You learn from having real fights against good fighters.

I think at the end of this year he may be ready to challenge again for a title.
As long as he improves, listens and sticks to the plans!!

Well done to both kids, great start to the year.

agreed, I was there in Eston at the Truscott fight and apart from a few "who are yas" aimed at Simpson at the start, the crowd were very good, well behaved and sporting.
